Physical disk to logical vol mapping

I need to setup alternate links for my disks. I have hpux 11.11. How do I determine the alternate disk path to set this up?

Thanks

Re: Physical disk to logical vol mapping

From the posted output it looks like you have only one HBA on your computer. If that's the case alternate pathing is not possible. Are you in a SAN environment? Can you post the output of the following:

# ioscan -funC ext_bus

~thanks

Yes, I have SAN's. I also have the one hba for both disks.

Re: Physical disk to logical vol mapping

Since you have only one HBA you cannot have alternate paths to your disks unless you install another HBA in your machine. Note the make and model of your computer and search for compatible HBAs on http://partsurfer.hp.com

~hope it helps

Re: Physical disk to logical vol mapping

Paul,

Do you have EMC PowerPath installed and configured? If yes, I would recommend you to consider it and install it.

If you have PowerPath you don't need to worry about alternate disks on the SAN.

Again you need minimum two HBA to make effective use of multipathing. As you are using EMC Symmetrix I would recommend you to map each devices to atleast two FAs and assign them to the host via each HBAs.
