Re: Please Post Forums Issues - August 2005
Seems that Merijin's stats do provide a nice comparision of point assignment. Having it in the profile would take little work, but it would force HP to fix the problem with people like Pete and I who are over 100%.
It would appear database corruption is the cause of lost content. When I lost content in the JUF's support call database I was told the issue was unrecoverable. Perhaps the same thing here.
Great to be back, if only half time.

There already is a list of favorites that you can add things to. Att the top of the thread there is a file-folder with a red '+' sign in it. Click that icon. That will add it to your list of favorites.
You then get to this list by going to your Forums user profile by clicking on your name.

Re: Please Post Forums Issues - August 2005
Kent's icon suggestion is a great idea, *BUT* it's not going to help much. It might encourage a few people, but there are far too many who either don't care how boorish they appear or who are what I call "hit and runers" - they ask their question, get their answer and close their browser without another thought. You're not going to change the behaviour of either of these categories, you just have to live with the knowledge that you're a better person than they are.

Re: Please Post Forums Issues - August 2005
Perhaps as a small step we could not start congratulations threads for people who receive points but don't give them! Or if someone does start such a thread, don't contribute to it!
It amazes me that someone started such a thread yesterday. Almost every entry reads "Congratulations - now award some points!" I've taken my own advice and not contributed.
Another point regarding this icon: once a user has achieved a certain number of points, there's no going back - they only have their hat taken away if it's being replaced with the next hat. What if someone achieves this icon with a score of 80%? Next time they ask a question, the icon has to be taken away until they award points. I suspect this will be too complicated to be worth implementing, which is a shame - as I said, I like the idea.

Re: Please Post Forums Issues - August 2005
Stuart - the freaky link issue is under investigation.
Kent - improvements to the search engine are on the enhancement list. Personally speaking, I like using google with site:itrc.hp.com included in the buzzwords, as a temporary workaround.
Points have always been a issue, we can only politely encourage others to assign points. We're not really here for the points, anyway, are we?
Pete - we've got moderators around the world watching things.
Thank you to everyone who is helping keep things running smooth.

Re: Please Post Forums Issues - August 2005
The beginning of the thread says "HP is seeking your opinion....". Now from that I assume this person is from HP. But then, anyone could say that.
I would like to see some sort HP logo or something signifying that these persons are actually HP employees. Perhaps some variant of the HP icon that is slightly different from the moderators icon (if that is allowed - internal politics and all that)?
It would just be nice to know that it is some division within HP that is making these requests.

Re: Please Post Forums Issues - August 2005
The hp logo is reserved for ITRC Management and some special contributors (like you might have seen the SAM Team).
We see these enhancement/feedback posts that pop up from time to time. If they are not valid, we remove them.
If ever you have a question whether a post is valid, post the link to this thread and we'll check them out.
I'll pass your suggestion on to Dan. This type of change would be major because currently we're programmed for either - you have the logo or you don't.

This thread needs an email address removed.
SEP, the leaky-links occur when some URL's are posted inline (i.e. http://forums1.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?threadId=945673 ) and then the text continues. It doesn't happen all the time, but it has as recent as yesterday.

As a matter of interest, what is the protocol regarding these threads? Who starts them? Is there someone watching all the stats for new hats?

Re: Please Post Forums Issues - August 2005
This is a fairly recent phenomenon, I think.
Most recently I saw this in my response to http://forums1.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?threadId=946080
where partial HTML tags appeared, and the word 'covers' got split, and other responses in the same thread are also affected.
