Re: Please Post Forums Issues - September 2004!

Antonio,

The issue I have is that I don't monitor the ITRC General category and therefore would never see this thread. One of the other improvements I've consistently asked for is the ability to "customize the forum subjects they view by setting up their own groupings". That would give me the ability to find this thread, as would JP and Merijn's "symlink" idea.

And I don't see how moving the thread makes it any more visible. You still have to know which category to look in. It would be better if there was a link to it on the front page, just like there is to the "Successes" thread and Merijn's "Statistics" thread.

Re: Please Post Forums Issues - September 2004!

Almost all statistics posts have an attachment in which the main report is formatted and the ID's are clickable

the forum does not allow formatted posts (yet)

There is a quality of response by having this thread in this category. You can't expect to get the same quality of response or timely response, in a forum that is quiet or has a high turnover rate.

Also itrc is very slow today.

Re: Please Post Forums Issues - September 2004!

The standard forum search at the top of the page is broken.

(The one with "search:, IT Resource Center (forums"))

I have been trying to search for the usual suspects, zero hits.

So then I searched for "the" and only got 50 hits. They were all from Sept 1 or 2 2004.

It appears that what ever database the search engine now searches has been severely truncated.

Re: Please Post Forums Issues - September 2004!

50 hits is the maximum number that the Forums search engine will ever return.

I just searched for "ignite" and got results. The search appears to be working for me.

Re: Please Post Forums Issues - September 2004!

Scot,

I'm assuming you're actually searching for the phrase "the usual suspects". If you put quotes around it, you'll get 7 hits.

Suggestion:

strongly encourage or require some kind of point assignment prior to letting a thread close.

This is just plain rude.

and I'm not involved in any way.

I agree with SEP.
If a thread is ripe for closure then
it is a god time for assigning points.

Re: Please Post Forums Issues - September 2004!

Thanks SEP for pointing out this important issue. When a Closed-Thread idea has been implemented i was thinking about something similar to a small pop-up window or menu that prompts the forumer to assign points when she/he intends to close a thread.

I am NOT a points-runner, but among the Designjets Forums, i can notice that points are not granted easily.

Hope this issue will be taken into consideration and thanks Steven once again.

Sa'ad

Re: Please Post Forums Issues - September 2004!

Dan,

Hopefully you folks are aware of this already and are working on it, but the Forums have been having "issues" this morning. They were completely unavailable for an hour so - maybe 8:00 to 9:00AM EDT. Since then, they've been sluggish, to say the least and I continually get errors trying to post replies (the second attempt seems to work though). I even stooped so low as to try IE to see if that was any better and consistently got "A Runtime Erroro has occurred. Line: 14 Error: Syntax error". Clicking on the "no, I don't wnat to debug" box allows one to continue, however.

Pete

P.S. After 10 attempts to submit via Netscape, I'm now desparate enough to try via IE - here goes.

Same problem: "Error while posting reply"

After another dozen attempts with IE, it finally worked. This is from Netscape.

Hi Pete,

Yes, the support team is on it. Looks like it may have something to do with the login feature of ITRC. Sorry about the inconvencience. If its a larger issue, I'll let you know what I find.

Thanks,
Dan

Re: Please Post Forums Issues - September 2004!

Hi again Dan,
Keep up the good work!!...
Now just to let you know (and test the forum at the same time) that it seems I can get to the forum but no more to the ITRC, I was after a patch and wanted to consult the knowledge database but nothing urgent...
at
http://europe.itrc.hp.com/service/home/home.do?LANGUAGE_OPTION=english
I get:
Proxy Reports:
10060 Connection timed out

So I suppose you are still in trouble with your login bridge...

Courage! Post tenebras lux...

All the best

Re: Please Post Forums Issues - September 2004!

Hi Dan,

this is crazy. I have seen a thread, closed, with a bunny and no one got a single point!

keep up the good work

Re: Please Post Forums Issues - September 2004!

Michael,
That is because under the latest enhancements the bunny signifies a resolved issue rather than the assignment of points. The person seleted the checkbox for "I have found a solution to this question as seen in the comments below."

Re: Please Post Forums Issues - September 2004!

Possibly related to the access problems yesterday, I didn't get the daily summary by email of new threads on the ITRC for Tuesday 15th.

It's normally sent around 6pm Eastern time.

Re: Please Post Forums Issues - September 2004!

On the subject of closed threads with no points raised above (and I just saw such a thread, too), can points still be awarded by the question author even after the thread has been closed?

Hi,

didn't get the daily threads for Wed Sept 15th. Normally around midnight GMT.
Saw already a reply for this as well today

Re: Please Post Forums Issues - September 2004!

Andrew, once a thread is closed, the author can still return and assign points. We've included a reminder in the close window to be sure to reward those who have helped. As always, there is no guarantee an author will assign points.

The notifications did not go out yesterday, sorry about that...expect them to today.

Thanks,
Dan

Cheryl,

I see your point on closure but now you can not even complain, that the author is a "point cheapo"
