Re: Please Post Your Forums Issues - March 2004!
I am trying to use the europeen ITRC and i get:
IT resource center busy
Due to an unusually high volume of users, the ITRC is currently busy. Please try again later to access the ITRC.
To address this problem, HP plans to deploy additional replicated sites and perform hardware upgrades at existing sites, so all of our customers can be accommodated.
(Error 9901)
I have been getting this message for an hour now. Could you give some info regarding how long the site remains unreachable? I need to order some new software ( SUM ).

Re: Please Post Your Forums Issues - March 2004!
My monthly attempt to summarize the most grievous, most oft-repeated issues
1) Recover the content lost during the 9/20/03 conversion/update - there are
numerous threads which suffered partial content loss, Merijn's statistics
postings being a prime example. Other examples point out that the benefit of
the ITRC database as a resource has been severely compromised. An excellent
dialog on wiping disks via various commands has now been rendered non-sensical
because much of it has been lost.
2) Clarify more distinctly the meaning of the new message button within a
thread so it will no longer be confused with the reply button.
3) Create a new category under HP-UX for congratulations, humor and other
miscellaneous off-topic threads so that those who don't wish to view these
items can bypass them.
4) Show the poster's name in the reply window.
5) Repeat the bread crumb navigation links at the bottom of the page so we
don't have to page all the way up to the top of long threads. Also, add the
same links to the notification pages.
6) Could we possibly have a real, functional search engine? Please??
7) Other forms of URLs need to be recognized (https, ftp) as the http ones
are.
8) Allow for formatted text that does not lose spaces, so script snippets can
be understood.
9) Provide the ability for a user to customize the forum subjects they view by
setting up their own groupings (like: all of HP-UX, plus Servers (9000), plus
Workstations (hp-ux based), plus all of Storage - well, you get the idea).
10) From Merijn: The ability to have a fixed signature in one's profile.

Re: Please Post Your Forums Issues - March 2004!
I'd like a way to group messages within a thread by threads:
often, replying to intermediate messages in a thread is
rendered inconvenient because the reply comes at the end,
not right next to the message for which the reply is intended.
You could implement this feature by probably continuing to display
postings in the same manner(multiple replies in a page),
but you can highlight messages in that thread which were posted since the last time
the reader logged in.
Thanks,
Sriram

Re: Please Post Your Forums Issues - March 2004!
Minor gripe....
Since the Education site IS part of the itrc.hp.com domain, why can't we use our standard ITRC login & PW to access that site?
PITA to have to remember multiple usernames/PWs because Lord knows we have plenty already at work & home.

Jeff

Re: Please Post Your Forums Issues - March 2004!
This site has become more reliable and more features work than not.
I'm going to take a moment to stand up and give you hard working people a military style salute.
.....
Good job, keep up the good work and lets pare down most of Pete's list.

Re: Please Post Your Forums Issues - March 2004!
I have always been curious about the format of this MB. It is unusual to say the least.
I see many other elegant MBs that seem more functional and simpler in some ways.
Just a suggestion, but I wont hold my breath!! hehe... j/k
The site is very functional and spartan, but imho could be a bit better and I dont think it would take that much to improve it.
Like I said, a minor gripe. but I would like to hear a response for the use of this type of MB.

Re: Please Post Your Forums Issues - March 2004!
a) Search only by forum
b) Search by user
c) Search only in results from a previous search
d) Search by a range of dates, since questions/responses from too far back may be irrelevant to current releases.
e) Search by either Subject line or also by the text in the body of the post
2) Manipulating posts:
a) Edit my post after posting
b) Create a Poll question so that folks could answer the poll with/without actually responding to the question.
c) Deleting my post if I duplicate it or before someone responds.
d) Signatures in posts
e) HTML formatting in posts...
Just to name a few... I am sure others could offer more suggestions.
Cheerfully offered! ;p

Re: Please Post Your Forums Issues - March 2004!
Could you please tell the nice person conducting the LVM, using the HP Customer Survey Account a little message from SEP.
We don't need a survey posted in every HP-UX forum to find it. Or rather, I don't need 10 copies of it to find it.
Thank You,

I was informed enough to just respond to just one.
You can't assume that all know the way & means of this place.
My 2 cents,

Someone please find this post a home.

The system board in question is not likely for an HP-9000 Server.

Re: Please Post Your Forums Issues - March 2004!
I just had an experience with the search engine, which is unbelievable. I was looking for a post with the following word:
gigabit nc77
It yielded no result. I was tired and playing around, so I thought, let's try and see, what gives:
nc77 gigabit
I couldn't believe my eyes, 100 hits!!
This search engine is a lottery. :-((
I don't know what to say..

Re: Please Post Your Forums Issues - March 2004!
in the forums are appeared of message with insults with my signature.
Someone will throw discredit on me: theese message are false, you can see there in no hat (I'm a wizard level).
Dan or every other HP member,
this is very intolerable: I ask an official investigation and an official thread that explain the bad messages are not mine.
To avoid confusion, since now I post also italian translation as true signature.
@Antoniov
Attenzione

Re: Please Post Your Forums Issues - March 2004!
I have had enough of this childishness.
Please delete the last two posts to your February Issues thead.
How about spending a little time to deal with the users that are running a muck.
Antoniov,
We know you, we like you, please ignore these people and give Dan a chance to clean it up.

Re: Please Post Your Forums Issues - March 2004!
The last couple replies in this thread need to be deleted:
http://forums1.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?threadId=476588
Also, could someone please explain why multiple Forum accounts are allowed to have what appears to be the same name? For instance, here is Antoniov (rank Wizard):
http://forums1.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/publicProfile.do?userId=BR760133&forumId=1
...and here is Antoniov (unranked):
http://forums1.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/publicProfile.do?userId=CA1096507&forumId=1
Thanks for any info.

Re: Please Post Your Forums Issues - March 2004!
the important user id is that one with the CA or BR. That one is unique. There are people with the same name, why shouldn't they have the same alias. But it is of course not good, that someone misuses this in that way.

Re: Please Post Your Forums Issues - March 2004!
You are right. I was confusing 'Author' (alias) with 'User ID'.
Still, I don't think two accounts should be allowed to have the same alias. This is confusing and ambiguous, at first glance. Especially if both accounts have the same rank, which is not the case in this instance.
I know I would be upset if someone decided to adopt the alias 'Jay Bollyn' and then started to post trash.
