Re: Please Post Your Forums Issues - March 2004!

Ganesh,

Good eyes. We just deployed this functionality for searching the forums. I will get a message out with more details, but suffice to say it allows a more granular search capability.

Thanks,
Dan

Re: Please Post Your Forums Issues - March 2004!

Hi Dan,

I noticed a sudden climb in my position in the top 10 in windows. I thought, this can't be, since I didn't get any points. Then I noticed Alex Merchant missing there.
Is there any specific reason for that?
While searching for his profile, I also noticed, that his congrats thread was missing.

thanks,

Michael

Hi Michael,

Your observation was keen. The username you refer to and the owner's other half dozen aliases were removed.

Thanks,

Re: Please Post Your Forums Issues - March 2004!

Most of the posters here are not HP employees, this is a mostly self regulated community. The HP logo indicates moderators, who have varying powers to edit and even remove posts.

I will note Roger F has been very helpful with my Windows questions in the past. HP owns this community and is the ultimate abritrator of what is acceptable behavior and what is not(my opinion). Anyone elses opinion you have to take based on experience. I personally take the opinions of members I respect highly and do whatever Dan G. says. There is a forums ettiquette page that might be helpful.

My personnal guide is as follows:
1) Don't use these pages for personnel commentary. If someone really wants a fight, they'll provide an email address.
2) Always assign points to your question responses because it encourages more answers.
3) Dan G. is in charge and if he says you're doing something wrong, take it seriously
4) Have fun.

I have a lot of respect for the knowledge and opinions of the posters in this forum, even those that have occaisionally taken potshots at me. Please don't be discouraged and perhaps try and follow the example of a member you respect.

Regards,

SEP

Re: Please Post Your Forums Issues - March 2004!

Is it just me, or does DACM sound an awful lot like Alex Merchant, or the fake Antoniov? I'm having trouble understanding how someone joins the forum one day, and right away the same day begins to nitpick a respected member. Does this seem fishy to anyone besides me? And what's up with Justin Severson, first day calls Latif "stupid"? Maybe he was being facetious, but if he was kidding, where's the smiley? Whatever happened to civility????

BTW, Roger, thanks for informing us of the fact that the threads in question were by a barred forumer! I think you're fabulous!! Please keep it up.

Have a happy day!

Re: Please Post Your Forums Issues - March 2004!

Take a look at this thread:
http://forums1.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?threadId=523534

Looks like i hit the mother load. Jeff didn't do bad either.

Sometimes that happens.

Sometimes especially in windowsland you slave away with 10 good answers and get nothing for it.

Its the way of the forums.

Can we grow up now.

Just a suggestion. Don't get mad at me, I got enough problems.

Re: Please Post Your Forums Issues - March 2004!

Hey Dan, what is happening?

I have had problems, in recent months I have been outside from this forum.
Now, I see a heap of strange things.
New members that attack old members (that they are respected by all the world of ITRC-forum).
I see threads that the members do not help that is in difficulty, but instead speak badly about other members of the forum.

Roger, SEP, Kim and italian friend Antoniov, you have all my solidarity and i want to say "ignore the threads of these strange members, this is the better thing to make"!

Dan, you are moderator of this forum, to you I want to say " ALERT ! Eyes open... the forum begins to be populated of many strangeness. You make all the possible one in order to have high-quality of ITRC-Forum ".

Thank You.
Bye
Bruno.

Re: Please Post Your Forums Issues - March 2004!

Hi Kim, Bruno, Michael, SEP, Roger and all other valued community members. There is a user who is not welcome here, but the message doesn't seem to be getting through. They are most concerned with earning points than sharing knowledge. The individual is solely focused on other user's points and the points system overall -- yet they are complaining on the same day they register, and they have yet to provide valid assistance to other members. Unfortunately, they register as multiple users.

Why would someone go to this trouble? I don't know, but suffice to say we (myself, HP, and thousands of other community members) know who are the earnest members of this vast and dynamic community. There are many (Faucher, LATIF, Finley, Kinner, Stephenson, Ferguson, Wallek, Protter, Randall, procura, Schusselle, and many, many more).

The forums are here for support and sharing of knowledge. Points are for rating replies so others know that an answer is a solution -- that is the primary reason. The secondary reason is for recognizing folks for their contributions, solutions or not (per http://forums1.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/helptips.do?#28).

I appreciate those above who do nothing but help, and I thank you for your support. If you continue seeing abhorrent duplicity in users, please let me know.

Kind Regards,
Dan

Re: Please Post Your Forums Issues - March 2004!

Hello Dan,
I agree with you; I was the first one posted about points and I mistaked posting him: bad idea, principally because I lost my time!
For other members: I think it's better unware any provocation as somebody hints me in past!
In a few months I earned more knoledge than I shared: this forum it's very fantastic.

I am speculating, there was a reply posted to the thread which was subsequently removed.
