Re: Please Post Your Forums Issues - March 2004!

Can someone kindly tell all the folks filling out the filesystem survey that they are supposed to FAX the form and not attach it?

thanks...

Re: Please Post Your Forums Issues - March 2004!

Hi,

I have a remark concerning the points.
N/A: The answer was simply a point of clarification to my original question.
This would be not usefull for a high assignment ratio.

I see it somewhat as an insult to award 0 points for a genuine effort to solve a problem. 0 points isn't even mentioned in the list.

Re: Please Post Your Forums Issues - March 2004!

I'd like to back Michael up on his point re points (pun intended).

I've only ever given 0 points twice. The first was when an upgrade had gone horribly wrong. Amidst the posts with genuine help was one telling me what I should have done to prevent the problem. A waste of my time and it deserved 0 points. The second was when someone included the words "no points please" in their post.

I admit to having a few "unassigned" hanging round my neck, but these are mostly problems which remain unresolved or ones where the posts were made after the fault was resolved.

In instances where someone has genuinely tried to help but their advice is of no use to me I usually give 3 points - the maximum under the guideline for a post which did not help. I agree it is an insult to give 0 points for a genuine effort.

Re: Please Post Your Forums Issues - March 2004!

SEP,
thank for your post I've apprecied.

Jay,
I think all posts should to be removed; in fews posts my person appears as a monkey.

For allbodies:
any newbie in forum can be confused by posts of the same person and he/she can't catch the different between an hat or any sign. I remember you the user id is not visible a thread level.

You can think this is only a childness but I question to me: "if this happen to you, are you avaiable to ignore with a simple smile?"

:-O

Re: Please Post Your Forums Issues - March 2004!

For those others of you who might wonder about the reasons for this ITRC > General thread being under HP-UX, there is a discussion ongoing in
http://forums1.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/postanswer.do?threadid=485269&forumId=1

I'd especially like the HP Moderators to respond to why not steer ITRC topics to the appropriately named and structured topical area.

Hi Antoniov,

Why don't you just change your handle to your full name like so many of us do?
With the total number of users on the forum currently - there's bound to be duplications if you *just* use a surname or given name alone.

Hi,

The search fielf at the top of each page only works if you have a US id. Can this become something that European users can also use?

Cheers,

Sorry Robert, not confirmed. Search works fine from top field here with European ID. Just as it should.

Re: Please Post Your Forums Issues - March 2004!

Dan,

I suggest HP start running Merijn's stats once a week via sql or database query. Again.

The Merijn can process and post.

I know HP can do this. A few years ago to spur forums interest, they ran a contest, awarding a prize to the top point getter during a particularly time period.

I live for the weekly chance to see my name at or near the top of Merijn's stats. That and my kids are one of my few pleasures.

SEP 27179 should have showed up with 554.

Yeah, I know get a life. I'm stuck with the one I have. :-(

Hi,

sometimes I run into the European site, when I use the search field.
The language handling is pretty much chaos. Sometimes German, sometimes English.

Steven - looks like I was missed as well - almost 200 points this past week...4002 to 4196...

Not a big deal....

Re: Please Post Your Forums Issues - March 2004!

Dan,

Take a look at this thread.
http://forums1.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?threadId=501869

Remove any of my posts you find inappropriate.

Provide me feedback offline via email if warranted.

I think the thread is out of control and I'm not going to trade insults with other posters. I don't think I've ever done that and I'm not starting today.

Anyone besides Dan wants to put in their two cents: sprotter@investmenttool.com

I suggest Jeff can critique my analysis offline. I'm standing firm on this. I never intended to speak for HP, but quote them. I think purchase decsisions PA-RISC versus Itanium are critical, especially for organizations that have limited capital.

To give my opinion honestly. I'm, writing to my employer a plan for the future of our legacy systems. Though we obviously could go PA-RISC and have our next major purchase supported into obsolescence, I have reluctantly conluded that due to HP's stance, Itanium might provide a better path.

If that has been delivered with arrogance, I humbly apologize to my fellow posters. I don't think that happened.

Re: Please Post Your Forums Issues - March 2004!

Steven & Jeff:

FWIW, I assume that no one (including those with the HP logo appended) speaks for corporate HP. I do however value the opinions of the people here.

Incidentally, I read the pertinent posts in this thread and I don't detect any attempt by Steven to speak for HP.

My 2 cents.

Re: Please Post Your Forums Issues - March 2004!

Thanks Roger,

Much appreciated.

Whether a blatant attempt at spam or a misuided reply this thread needs to go:

http://forums1.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?threadId=507712

This thread appears to be a HP-UX thread:
http://forums1.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?threadId=503871

In the forum, the HP logo is for forum moderators(my opinion based on observation). These folks can actually move threads and modify posts. There are other HP people who don't have the logo.

I'm affected by last weeks incident and feeling strange emotions because of it.

I would say that if they added the signature feature thats been called for for months, mine would include a disclaimer that my opinions are my own, not HP's. Either way, thats in the terms of use for the site anyway.

I think a definitive statement from Carly's office with regards to the future of PA-RISC would be helpful.

I'm going to try and be true to my principles and let Dan G. let me know when I've crossed he line, not certain prickly forumers.

All readers should know that on two occaisions Dan has pointed out situations that were questionable(1 involving a thread, the other accidental posting of material not eligible for forumers without a a software contract)so I'm not some yahoo running amok in an attempt to climb the leader board.

I am moderated same as everyone else.

Whooosh!

Hi Todd,

Eran here works for HP, last I checked in Israel.

http://forums1.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/publicProfile.do?userId=BR622784&forumId=1

No logo.

I really don't know, I think I remember seeing an old post that said that.

I'm not sure.

After last week, I'm going to be hedging a lot more.

Re: Please Post Your Forums Issues - March 2004!

Unless the policy has changed, whether an HP employee is or is not a moderator is up to the Grand Poobah, Dan and his requirements. The employee has to demonstrate some level of perticipation in the Forums and I think Dan told me once that participation was demonstrated by acquiring some minimal total of points. My data are about 2 years old so things may have changed.
If it ain't broke, I can fix that.

Re: Please Post Your Forums Issues - March 2004!

Neither do I know if the policy changed, but some guy from HP once told me off-line that the placing of the logo was the choice of the member: voluntarily
