Re: Please Post Your ITRC Forums Issues for March 2003!

Oh, I can see what it's doing.
Somehow it's pulling the blue "Useful Links" box up into the thread.

That's weird...... =~()

Patrick - You use Opera to post that thread?

Hmmm....That link looks fine in Opera and Netscape 7. It does looked pretty wierd in Internet Exploder though. Sorry.

Re: Please Post Your ITRC Forums Issues for March 2003!

Yea, looks OK w/Mozilla as well.
Is the last character in the URL an equal sign (=)?

If not it's getting chopped & that's probably what's whacking Exploder.

Re: Please Post Your ITRC Forums Issues for March 2003!

The last character in the link is an equal sign. The link is not getting truncated as it does bring up the correct page from the partsurfer site.

Something sure is confusing Internet Exploder though.

Dan, if there's some way to edit that post so it doesn't screw up exploder, short of completely deleting the URL if possible, feel free.

Jeff and Patrick,

Thanks...the = sign was removed and made everything look good...and the URL still works. Strange days.

Re: Please Post Your ITRC Forums Issues for March 2003!

and Dan,
one more. whenever someone posts an external link, it opens up in a new window. (some java.external... stuff). but when i click on a second link in the page, it uses the same window to open the new link. that means, i need to read the first link before i even think of reading the second.
can something else be worked out.

thanks again.

Re: Please Post Your ITRC Forums Issues for March 2003!

Two words for the forums this morning: DOG SLOW!

I have literally clicked on a link for a thread and gone back to another program to get something accomplished, came back almost a minute later and it was STILL trying to load.

Posting is virtually impossible (but I took the time to make this one happen!)

Dan, I hate to say this but you're site is killing those of us in the Central US this morning....

And those of us in the Eastern US as well. I didn't bother to write down timings but I can assure you they would have been in the minutes range to open this post, open this reply window, etc, etc.

Re: Please Post Your ITRC Forums Issues for March 2003!

John and Pete,

Is performance better later in the day? Approximately what time? Looking at our performance logs, I can't find a time where it dips dramatically as you've described. And I don't experience it either. I'm just wondering if it has to do with local networking, etc.

Re: Please Post Your ITRC Forums Issues for March 2003!

Dan,

As I've said before, it's tantalizingly close to being consisten, but not close enough. Usually it's late morning - 1030 to 1100 EST. It usually clears up in an hour. Today's was actually starting to get better when I posted my complaint, but the improvement was gradual, finally clearing up somewhere around noon.

I too, have tried to blame my local network, but other websites seem to be fine so I don't think that was it. I also noticed that when I was able to get back to the home page, there seemed to be very little activity, so I don't think it was very localized.

I was really going to try to go a whole month without whining about it - maybe not even post an "Issue" at all and then claim the lack thereof as a "Success" at the end of the month. Oh well maybe next month.

Re: Please Post Your ITRC Forums Issues for March 2003!

1- The speed is good for me now.

Dan:

2-I use to connect to my profile page, rewiew the lastest responses , and (also) check points.

These morning was 3500 point ( a easy number), and this evening was 3508. I have earn a new rabit , from hp labs question - who like to assing 10 point ALLWAYS-, so i was very surprised. Now i wonder if i dont know how to add 1500 + 10 because ift seem to be 3508??

3- I still like to see the all_forums_members_page(s).

Re: Please Post Your ITRC Forums Issues for March 2003!

Dan,

I wasn???t logging time started vs. time ended. Right after I posted that last message to this thread, I stopped trying all together. I know that doesn???t help you much on your investigation, but it helped my nerves quite a bit.

I can say without hesitation that the issue was there prior to 08:00 CST this morning and lasted at least up to the time that I sent my post to this thread. That post alone took upwards of 1 min. + to complete.

I know this is an old complaint and the resolution to it is going to be virtually impossible to find, but it got so bad this morning that I had to inform you of it.

I will also say that very much like Pete, I also tried other web sites at the time and wasn???t having the same problem with them. It???s nice to see that the lag now appears to be down to a reasonable level (at least it was when I started this message ;-)

Re: Please Post Your ITRC Forums Issues for March 2003!

Dan,

Yestday morning was horrible, very slow response, then when I got back here at noon, it was snappy.

I always assume the problem is our provider unless other web sites are snappy and itrc is slow.

As I have noted earlier this site is quite usable when its working right through a cellular phone modem which gets 19.2 Kbps

Hi Dan,

The timing issue still persists. If you look at the following thread

Hey DAN,

Something just came to my attention. Why there is no such forums issue in the Microsoft Side?

Thanks.

This is fetching the first hp-ux page. I've got no clue about how to check posting speed, which was waaaaaay more slow than reading.

This speeder will run for some time, I might even generate a graph out of it.

Re: Please Post Your ITRC Forums Issues for March 2003!

Hi XMAN,

The reason there's no issues thread on the MicroSlop side is because nobody would use it. They're so used to just dealing with the inadequacies of Windoze that they just accept problems and reboot without thinking about it.

Re: Please Post Your ITRC Forums Issues for March 2003!

Sri,

???The question was posted at 23:11 and I answered it at 23:02.???

That???s not a problem, that???s GREAT service! Do you have any idea how many times I have wished that someone could answer my question BEFORE I asked? It would save me sooooo much time and trouble.

We should move that post to the ???Successes??? section and see what kind of response we get from it ;-)

Pete,

Be careful with Xman. His background is in Winblows. He???s only beginning to see the brighter side of life via Unix. We don???t want to bruise him too much right off the bat. You might give him the impression that we don???t care much for Mickysoft in this section of the forums. We wouldn???t want to do that, now would we??

Unbelieveable!!!!!

The DAMN timing issue is back again. See this thread where Jonathan thanks me for my answer a full 10 minutes before the answer itself:

Timing issues again at http://forums.itrc.hp.com/cm/QuestionAnswer/1,,0x75699c196a4bd71190080090279cd0f9,00.html

I answer the question and the author replies 'can you think of a workaround'? I answer it again and it appears before the question of the workaround.

I wonder of this message will appear on the top of the thread ;-)

Re: Please Post Your ITRC Forums Issues for March 2003!

XMAN brings up a good point. If we are to post general issues concerning the ITRC Forum as a whole, why should it be under the hp-ux category. Yes it is the most active forum, but does it reach the most users?

Just my thoughts.

Thanks,
Greg
