Wodisch,
vpars (Virtual Partitions), currently runs on L and N-class machines. On superdomes, they use "hard partions". The new rp8400 (what should have been the S-class), has the ability to have two hard partitions, and next year the ability to have vpars (I imagine the virtual partition monitor will be rather large).
I've been in the vpar beta program since Dec of 2000. I've been benchmarking our homegrown apps on an N-class with 6 cpus and 10gb of memory. We completed testing of two partitons, four partitions, and now I'm about to start a six partition test.
I was very, and I mean VERY, disappointed with the new RP8400. Although it has a lot of redundancy, it only has 16 IO slots, severely limiting the use of vpars. I've heard that plan to introduce more IO slots, but I won't hold my breath.
As to vpars, I find it a very good and stable product. Easy to manage and setup. I like the flexibility to quickly setup different configurations.
I could go on here forever, that's why I'd like to see a seperate thread on vpars, so that people can ask questions and get answers.
