Re: Please Report Forums Issues (9/4/2001)
When you reassign ownership of a handle from one person to another the reassigned ownership and the privaleges that go with it do not take effect until you signout and sign back in.
Granted this may seem trivial, but a) it is not documented (did I miss it?) b) some of us *never* log out of the ITRC and never shutdown our PC's.

Re: Please Report Forums Issues (9/4/2001)
This biggest frustration to me when I use the forum is the slow response. My connection is through a DSL line, and is consistently very fast, so I know the porblem isn't on my end. Being in a single-server (L1000) environment with 50 users I need to be able to quickly scan the forum and get back to my daily problems. If the system was more repsponsive I would be able to respond to more questions, rather than just pst my problems when they arise...thanks.

Re: Please Report Forums Issues (9/4/2001)
just been reading that thread:
http://forums.itrc.hp.com/cm/QuestionAnswer/1,1150,0x291c8ffa98a2d5118ff10090279cd0f9,00.html
which leads me to YAER (yet another enhancement
request - as long as you do not say "stop" I will
continue :-)
Can we have a "Do NOT forget to assign points" at
a very prominent place on all the "reply" pages, pleace?
Like between the "hp header" and the "subject"?
Kind regards,
Wodisch (who is very pleased with the forums speed today)

Re: Please Report Forums Issues (9/4/2001)
The issues surrounding the separate American and Eurpoean logins and access to the Technical Knowledge Base have surfaced again in this thread:
http://forums.itrc.hp.com/cm/QuestionAnswer/1,1150,0x91288ffa98a2d5118ff10090279cd0f9,00.html
As you are aware, we discussed this at HPWorld in Chicago last month with some of the ITRC staff. I think we all agree that a uniform access structure is highly important to a unified community experience. Please make sure that this is on the enhancements list.
Regards!

Re: Please Report Forums Issues (9/4/2001)
today the "search" button seems to be broken!
Well, at least for about 10 attempts - nothing found...
Now it is working again, strange - within the same session, just different windows!
A lot of "404"s and "SSI"s today, I am sorry to say.
And the European vs. American Ids problem did lead me
to have an Id on both servers many years back...
I even do have a few points there, but no american
"hat" ;-) But I have never tried to use that account,
when I got the "no, you cannot" message, though.
Oh, and I have got a new idea for an "YAER":
Would it be possible to permit multiple maintainers
or owners for a single thread?
Then we could have some ongoing threads (e.g. FAQ)
being maintained by some of us, not by a single person.
And a question for pure personal curiousity:
we do have 20 "royals" (only two queens, though, I believe),
but how many pros, graduates, and wizards, are we?
and how many "hatless" members?
TIA,
Wodisch

Re: Please Report Forums Issues (9/4/2001)
when using the search to find posts in the forums, it is limited to 50 results.
Believe it or not, 50 isn't enough sometimes. Why not retrieve all, but only show 25 per page? That should cause a dramatic perfomance decrease should it?

Re: Please Report Forums Issues (9/4/2001)
I with the view items pull down would contain an option to view the messages posted(originated) by me.

Re: Please Report Forums Issues (9/4/2001)
Ok, believe it or not, I was using the search tool yesterday and was saying the exact same thing to myself. I'd like to see more than 50 results, too. I have added this enhancement to the tracking tool, and hopefully it can be implemented without any performance degradation. Thanks for your input!!

Re: Please Report Forums Issues (9/4/2001)
It would have the effect of shortening the time to repair because the CE would not have to make a trip to the office for parts and isn't this what service is all about?

Re: Please Report Forums Issues (9/4/2001)
I have a few remarks about the forum:
- please add the buttons "notify me", "reply" and "new message" to the bottom of a thread. P.e. at this long thread it's very handy in stead of scrolling the whole page up
- If I reply a message, I can't get back easily to the original message. Hitting the back button sometimes my addition to the message isn't viewable yet. If I click on the link I'll redirected to the forum group where the thread is written down, but sometimes I click directly from the root (latest additions within a certain group like hp-ux) a certain thread. (p.e. if I clicked this message in hp-ux I'll be redirected after my answer to general...)
- OpenView forum should be redesigned. Some groups are very old like desktop administrator and some new product don't have a good place yet...

Re: Please Report Forums Issues (9/4/2001)
This may have been suggested before, but I'd like to see an area where we can post scripts (shell, Perl, awk, sed, etc.) that we use. Sometimes people will post questions about how to do things using scripts, and they get back some great responses with examples. It would be nice to have a place where those scripts could live so that we could all go look at them and browse them.

Re: Please Report Forums Issues (9/4/2001)
Thanks for the suggestions....all very good ideas. I will add them to the list of enhancements to do. Paul, I will need to forward your request onto the team that manages the hardware call area of the ITRC. I will let you know what they can do.
Thanks again for the help...

Re: Please Report Forums Issues (9/4/2001)
I have 2 questions:
1. how to subscribe the ' top read solutions ' by email?
2. I couldn't download the file 'lsof'
attached in the first answer of 'http://forums.itrc.hp.com/cm/QuestionAnswer/1,1150,0x9d85abe92dabd5118ff10090279cd0f9,00.html'(title: How to find the process that used a TCP/UDP port? ):
when I use save link as ..' in IE5.00, it said:"can't download XX.gz from openExternal('. Not support."
when I use save link as ..' in netscape4.73, a save dialog appeared, but nothing was saved after I saved.
when I left clicked it in IE5.00, nothing was displayed.
when I left clicked it in netscape4.73, 'HTTP Error 404 (Not found)' was displayed.
Can you offer me a good answer?
Thank you very much!

http://hpux.cs.utah.edu/hppd/hpux/Sysadmin/lsof-4.55/
I don't think you can subscribe to the top read solutions by e-mail. You can get daily e-mails on certain categories by going to 'My Profile' link on the left hand menu, and then go to 'view or modify forums profile' and then click the 'interest' box for the category or categories you wish to receive e-mail notifications on. I personally don't find these e-mails very useful (sorry Dan).
Hope this helps!

Re: Please Report Forums Issues (9/4/2001)
Thank you so much!
Now my lsof works well!
For the second questions, I have enjoyed the convenience from this service of the chinese HPUX forum, so I suggest to add such a service here if hasn't.
It's a pity that I can't assign points for your help!

Re: Please Report Forums Issues (9/4/2001)
It look like my last question has been removed:
See: http://forums.itrc.hp.com/cm/QuestionAnswer/1,1150,0xbf8cabe92dabd5118ff10090279cd0f9,00.html
I cant find this question on HP-UX forum now.
But a minutes before Volker has replay me.
When i have refreshed page ... There is no text on question !!!!.

Re: Please Report Forums Issues (9/4/2001)
Got this error few minutes back when trying to access forum.
Error processing SSI file
'/cm/FamilyHomeContent/1,1152,LoggedIn!117,00.html'
A refresh however solved the problem.
thanks
