Re: Please Report Forums Issues - April 2002!

The forums have been very slow the past few days. Thursday and Friday I was lucky to get in at all most times, others I got a page not found reply.

Today I am not getting page not found, but very slow. It takes several minutes to load the pages. It took about a minute for this reply page to load.

Hope it helps

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - April 2002!

Hi Dan,

For a moment, I thought my eyes were playing tricks on me.

Remembered seeing iambluegary's query on the difference between direct and indirect maps. After I responded to it and reloaded the HP-UX main page, viola, the posting MIA'ed.

My profile now looks like this under recent responses:

My plain text attachments in http://forums.itrc.hp.com/cm/QuestionAnswer/1,,0xaee99276484dd611abdb0090277a778c,00.html are all truncated. These are far below the 1MB limit

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - April 2002!

If I don't end my message with a newline (which I often don't, I'm unbeatable lazy), the last letter is truncated.

I'll end this message with the sequence "ABCEDFX" and no newline.

ABCDEFX

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - April 2002!

Hello Tom, Kurt, Steven, etc.,

The forums experienced downtime today from appox. 2am-3am Eastern Standard Time (roughly the time you are reporting). This also occurred the day before. The support team is doing all it can to figure out why. Please accept my apologies for the availability issue.

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - April 2002!

Dan-

just a note inreference to Patrick's etiqutte post. he has that people should keep with posts, etc. There has also been an ongoing issue with points. Why not change the default to be that the author is emailed everytime there is a response unless they say not to. I can see how a congrats post would not need to, but for most posts, I would think that the author would want to know when someone has answered. It would also make it easier to find and remember to give points, as I don't delete the message from my email until I give points, and there is the list of checked responses in my profile so I can see all the threads that I have done. I can uncheck it there if all points have been assigned. Just a thought.

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - April 2002!

Hi Mark,

This was suggested a bit ago, and after discussing it with our privacy group, it was decided that making notification the default is within the boundaries of our terms. So, I've got that listed as an enhancement for the next release -- hopefully we can get that in for everyone. I agree it will help, even though it may not be "the answer".

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - April 2002!

Hi Dan,

I suggested this before but thought of bringing it up again.

Is it possible to have a column of unanswered postings (i.e. threads with 0 responses)? It is quite inconvenient to search for unanswered postings by browsing through pages after pages of postings.

Just my 2 cents of suggestion. I do not know how the rest feel about this suggestion.

Thanks. Regards.

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - April 2002!

Hi Dan,

in addition to browsing only the "unanswered" postings, I would like to have the chance to browse the "rabbit-less" questions, too.

PS: are the (binary) attachments working by now? For testing reasons I have attached a 3 byte text ("abc", no CR, no NL)

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - April 2002!

Re-Hi Dan,

apparently attachments still do NOT work - m attachment has got 8 bytes inserted at the beginning! :-(

Why?

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - April 2002!

Dan,

take a look at this post:

http://forums.itrc.hp.com/cm/QuestionAnswer/1,,0xf55f7d4cf554d611abdb0090277a778c,00.html

I lost my network connection, possibly while posting my 2nd response here - it seems to have screwed up the formatting somehow...

cheers

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - April 2002!

Hi Duncan,

Don't worry, you are not alone.

Look at the following thread. Patrick posted two links in response to my query and it caused the formatting to go haywire as well. And there is nothing that can be done about it.

http://forums.itrc.hp.com/cm/QuestionAnswer/1,,0x81c153921f1ad5118fef0090279cd0f9,00.html

Btw, because of this, I can't assign points to one of Patrick's responses. So, I still owe him points. :P

Hope this helps. Regards.

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - April 2002!

Maybe not the right thread [ you can argue it should have reported as success ], but I've re-installed Opera-1087 (latest beta) on a clean folder and now I can post New messages and Reply with Opera ....

.... As long as I Identify as IE :[[[[

Well, the forum is more important than my aversion to IE.

Hmmm, maybe an HP issue after all. Hey guys - Opera works! Don't disable it on detection.

BTW Mozilla-1.0-rc1 has no open issues (for as far as I'm concerned) regarding the Forum. Works *much* better than 0.9.9. Did not get any of the reported issues after the last upgrade.

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - April 2002!

Hello Dan,

Jasper tried to post some document (binary, not text) and it was damaged, again...
Can you stop the "daemon" (or whoever it is) from inserting some bytes at the very beginning of the "attached" documents, please?

This is very annoying and defeats the whole purpose of being able to attach something!

Wodisch
