Re: Please Report Forums Issues - April 2003

When I go to the forum search at:

http://us-support2.external.hp.com/emse/bin/doc.pl/forward/screen=emseHome/sid=6a66d97b1d445bf8c4?

the layout is messed up when using Mozilla 1.3 or 1.2.1. Also, today (4/11/03) I have had trouble searching the forums. Even when I search for obvious things like CDE, it comes back with no replies.

Eric,

You are a prince among men. Many thanks to you for the house cleaning job.

Now, since you seem to be soooooooooo good at cleaning house, let me give you my address. We???ve been so busy lately that we could use a good butler. Of course, with the economy being the way it is we wouldn???t be able to pay you, but???

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - April 2003

First time I've ever encountered this problem and it occurred on Thursday or Friday April 10th or 11th.

Mr. Harry Zhou had posted two identical questions with different titles. This happens.

Problems develope when solutions are posted to one and not the other so syncing is accomplished by pasting one URL into the other and vice versa.

And this was the situation in this case. Multiple answers were provided in the two postings and then synced by pasting in the URL's between the two.

Only this time one posting was deleted from the forum. And it doesn't appear in either mine or Mr. Zhou's forum accounts. It's been removed from the audit trail and from the forum.

Here is the current and still existing URL:

http://forums.itrc.hp.com/cm/QuestionAnswer/1,,0x248919434a69d711abdc0090277a778c,00.html

Here is the removed URL:

I cannot click the link in http://forums.itrc.hp.com/cm/QuestionAnswer/1,,0xdd9419434a69d711abdc0090277a778c,00.html (OK, I *can* click it, but nothing happens, at least not in Opera). I *can* however, select the link with the mouse and open it wilt New and paste in the URL bar.

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - April 2003

Hey Dan!
I just had an idea for a new hat--a Dunce Cap. This would be reserved for people who repeatedly ask questions, get answers, but never assign points to the people who answer them. They get the dunce cap after the 5th question where they don't assign points

Or maybe a jackass icon for the truly unrepentant. This would be after, oh say 25 questions where points are unassigned.

Lastly, a Black Hole for people who have asked 100 questions and never yet assigned points.

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - April 2003

Hi Chris,

Very good suggestion. I stopped helping people with less than 10 unassigned questions.

Let them find out themselves.
If we all do it, they might learn it ones ?

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - April 2003

hi David and Chris,

I am for the dunce and jackass cap ideas...

Just like the others I spend some considerable time on replying to these queries.

Some just give a request for a script which they can probably use in their workplace, and there a lot of people who out of their own interest reply to these. It'd do good if a thanks is posted across from the questioners' side.

Dan,

I just wanted to let you know that response was actually fairly good today. Maybe it's because there hasn't been all that much activity today, but I only noticed a few minor slowdowns at 10:30, 11:20, 11:30, and 1:10 EDT.

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - April 2003

Dan: If I click on 'search' in the Navigation Bar, I get some useful options at the bottom (sort by, hits per page, etc).

Once I have searched, however, those useful three options across the bottom disappear. I suspect this is an oversight, not a feature.

Kindly pass this along to the development team. I use those to give me more hits per page, and to sort as I need to, and hope to see them on all search pages. Great addition, average execution?

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - April 2003

Funny thing is I am receiving spooky email notifications that certain questions have been answered. either these are coming very late, or they shouldn't be coming coz when i click on the link there are no new replies posted.

But on the whole the site performance has been fabulous this whole day (I am from India).

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - April 2003

No Pete, not the profile link, but the link to the other congrat thread.

I'm overly occupied at the moment, so not even have time to test if Mozilla or others would succeed. FWIW, it's Opera-7.10 and someone there found a creepy way to use it to asign points. Still have to try that, but I don't hold my breath.

Pasting in a link to a case regarding ITO and error SC1130:

http://forums.itrc.hp.com/cm/QuestionAnswer/1,,0xc1199607df6ed711abdc0090277a778c,00.html

Searching for this error SC1130 through the ITRC search engine yielded nothing.

However...

...searching for SC1130 via 'webcrawler' yeilded all sorts of hits into the itrc ito forum. Here's one, its how I was able to respond to the author:

Dan,

I replied to a message with no subject and now in my forum profile page where all my replies are listed, the entry is showing up not as a link but as a string "/cm/QuestionAnswer/1,,0x391f9607df6ed711abdc0090277a778c,00.html" - this is a bug which needs to be fixed - the subject string is expected to be non-null.

Pl do look into this.

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - April 2003

Dan,

Replying to a message and getting it posted is becoming frustrating. You press submit, nothing happens. Press it again, nothing happens, ... And then later, you have flooded the post with too many answers. And looking at the double post of Ramkumar, others have the same problem too. It' something that should really be solved.

Hi Dan,

lots of 'No server' and 404 at the moment (11.45 GMT) with M* explorer. Maybe my congrats threads? ;-)
Fortunately Netscape is working again.

One more question:
Doing a search and sorting at date it only shows threads from March or earlier. Nothing from April.

I've also observed V. Hyga's complaint about no hits for the current month provided by the search engine. I've noticed this for awhile. Always thought the current month needed to be closed out before addition to the search engine's archive.
