Re: Please Report Forums Issues - July 2002!

This morning I had a browser crash (and a lot more trouble, but that's not important for the discussion here), and my history, settings and coockies were removed :(

The forum can be browsed without being logged on, and on posting new messages or replying it then asks to log on [ the cookie was gone, remember ].

But before I posted a reply somewhere, I did try to asign points in your congratulation thread. That action did *NOT* ask for a logon, and still gave a confirmation window, but did NOT asign the points. After the logon for the post I had to re-asign the points, which worked

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - July 2002!

Regarding the OpenExternal java errors, like Don I was having this problem and was 'putting up with it' because while it was annoying it seemed trivial (and I thought I was just being blonde about it ;). Perhaps a small note in the New User information or the Forum FAQ would be appropriate.

Thanks

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - July 2002!

Hi Dan,
I think this forum is a great place to "hang out". I tend to follow most of the categories in hp-ux but does so thru watching all of hp-ux. There has been a suggestion to add another category for scrips and some of the arguments against was that there are too manny categories to watch already. Which brings me to my point. Would it be posible to implement a "checkbox menue" where you could check off the categories you would want to see?

Dog slow (stalls, general bad response) from roughly 11:30 to 11:45 AM EDT.

Somebody hit the wrong button?

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - July 2002!

I have noticed an odd behavior after posting replies. When I open a post, the message and replies use much but not all of the screen width. After I post a reply, and return to the message, the message and replies are now much wider than the screen and I have to scroll to the right to see the reply button, etc. If I reply again, the messages are so wide, I cannot even scroll to the reply button anymore.

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - July 2002!

Dan,

After I assign points to answers of my questions, I press the submit button and I get the 'assiging points - acknowledge window'. If I return now to the forum (eg omniback or management software), my points are not assigned to the answer I've just quoted. Only when I return to the message after assigning points, they are actually given to the grantee.

I had this issue already a number of times.

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - July 2002!

Hi Dan,

It appears that a user has a problem with their profile. Instead of showing their name, it is showing part of a URL. See this thread:
http://forums.itrc.hp.com/cm/QuestionAnswer/1,,0x19144b3ef09fd611abdb0090277a778c,00.html

(I accidentally posted this to your "It's OK to assign points thread. Feel free to remove my last 2 posts from that thread.)

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - July 2002!

Dan,

I just opened up the 1st page of the hp-ux forum and found the following;

"World writable directory" problem with sendmail system administration /cm/UserProfile/1,,CA710212!1,00.html 2 07/26/02

rather than the normal name display of the user raising the question. After a few refreshes of the screen, the problem went away. It was only the one record that was affected.

Correction to my last reply - the problem appeared to go away, but only briefly.

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - July 2002!

Hi Dan,

Had a strange problem this morning. My browser crashed (Netscape 6.2.3) and now won't come back up, but that's not your problem. I then opened both IE6 and Netscape 7.0PR1 and in both browsers I'd try to reply to a post and I would see at the bottom of the screen that it was trying to talk to europe.support.itrc.hp.com for some reason. Finally I logged out of the ITRC and logged back in and the problems is now solved. Very strange behavior though.

Just thought I'd let you know.

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - July 2002!

Kurt -- I think it may be a caching issue. I've tested what you described and can't duplicate. Try refreshing your browser next time you run into it to see what happens.

Patrick and Chris -- the username you pointed out was registered using a Korean character set, which are not supported at this time by the forums. I've emailed the user suggesting to use English characters for now.

Suhas -- if you email your attachment to itrc_forums@hp.com, we'll see if we can post it. Otherwise, try it yourself again and please note that attachments can't exceed 1Meg.

Thanks,
Dan

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - July 2002!

Dan,

It appears that the case sensitivity is considered when a search is performed.

I tried to search for the patch PHCO_25527 twice as follows:

the first time:
- invoke the search page.
- check the patch box and 11.0.
- enter PHco_25527 in the search box
This search returned nothing.

The second time:
- same as the first time but instead PHCO_25527 was entered in the search box.

This search did returned the info on the patch.

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - July 2002!

I have not posted any questions on the forums but have noticed that a lot of the questions go by without any points assigned. I see some messages posted to the user in the thread requesting that they assign points. I was thinking that maybe some people just are not aware that the points help the forum. I would think that most people would be willing to take another minute out of their day for the help they received. I guess my request is to make it more visible to the person posing a question that they should assign points to give people searching the forum a clue on what resolved the issue.

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - July 2002!

Hello,

I had this several times.
After having assigned points, when i press submit button and get back to the message the responses are still unmarked.

I have it quite often.

Also, the possibility of "closing" a question would be great!

Cheers

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - July 2002!

Hi Dan,I'm a freshman in English forum.
After I post a new article or an answer , now the system will give 3 links to choice:
. Return to message
. Return to ../..
. Return to ..
(I think everyone can understand ".." and "../..")
If I don't select one,it will do nothing.
Can system automatically return to certain forum(article) after 3-5 seconds? And the author can select how to return in user's profile.
---Just an advice!

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - July 2002!

Hi Dan,

just a minute ago I had a lot of problems with the forums server:
- 404 upon submitting a reply
(http://forums.itrc.hp.com/cm/QuestionAnswer/1,,0x371a4b3ef09fd611abdb0090277a778c,00.html)
- 404 upon reply (itself) on your thread here!

reloading a couple of time finally got me though...

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - July 2002!

Hi Dan,

Just had a couple of issues getting into some Forums threads. I tried going into the "Greater Hats" thread and got a '404 not found', I then hit RELOAD and got "Error processing SSI file '/cm/QuestionAnswerContent/1,11870,LoggedIn!0x823136e69499d611abdb0090277a778c!0!1!0!0!0,00.html'"
I hit reload again and the thread came up.

I then went back to HP-UX and clicked on this thread. I got an SSI error first, hit reload, got a 404 error, hit reload again, and finally the thread came up.

First time in a while I've seen these problems.

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - July 2002!

I just got on the forum back after more than 6 months away. And I am impressed. Things are smoother, faster, and better.
I suppose I should be posting to the other threat :-)

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - July 2002!

OOOPS!!! Did I speak too soon. Right after I typed the above message and hit submit, it took me to the next page, there I chose to go back to hp-ux > general, it took me to that page, however also gave me this : Error processing SSI file '/com.hp.itrc_Core/com.hp.itrc_Core_TopLeft_Welcome/1,11958,,00.html'

I remember seeing a lot more of these SSI errors way back in early 2001, at that time the error would be the only thing appearing on the page, however, this time I have all the other links and pictures, just that they were not scaled properly. So better than before, but need to get rid of those SSI errors.

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - July 2002!

Hi Dan,

just a few minutes ago I tried to log off from the american server (which took about five or six attempts), and then to login on the european server (to congratulate Bill Hassel ) - but the european login server was on strike :-(
Seems like I have to stay "the american way" even longer...

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - July 2002!

Hi Dan,
I am not able to get any results on the search engine for community forums.
I ticked on ITRC forums and was not able to find any results on anything I typed. I.e. network.
I also went to the HPUX forum looked at the top post at the time, entitled "sticky bit" went back to the search engine, typed it and ticked both on the ITRC forum and Business Customers
No results were produced.
(I didn't check into Techinical documents, patches, etc., only forums.)
You may already be looking into it, but I thought I'd bring it up.
Thanks,
Kel

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - July 2002!

Hi Dan,

There is certainly something wrong with the search engine. I tried to find a posting I looked at last week by attempting to find 'sendmail spamming'. This produces no results whatsever. I just tried another whilst I was typing this response on just the word 'sendmail' and zip again.....

Thanks
Michael

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - July 2002!

Hi Kel and Michael, thanks for the note regarding the search engine. A new UI was released to allow separating results between the ITRC forums and business discussion group forums. For some reason, the results are not produced. This has been reported to the lab and support teams...please standby.

Thanks,
Dan

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - July 2002!

Hi Dan,

This is strange. I just started seeing the new search screen (where you can separate ITRC & Business Forums in your search, this morning.

I did some searches yesterday and saw the old search screen. At the time of Michael's and Kelli's posts I tried searching and it worked (again with the old search screen).

It seems strange that some would see the new and some would see the old. Maybe something to do with my browser cache?

Anyway, I am now seeing the same behavior that they reported.

Hopefully this is a pretty high priority with the developers and they get it fixed soon.
