Re: Please Report Forums Issues - May 2003
I'll be the first to post. We are still working on resolving the performance problem you may be experiencing. I apologize for this, and will try to keep you updated. Please note that when submitting messages, the first click on the 'submit' button initiates the submittal. The acknowledement page is slow to respond, but it eventually will. I appreciate your patience.
Take care,
Dan

Just so you don't forget, the successes link from here: http://forums.itrc.hp.com/cm/
still points to the April posting.

You are right!
I experienced the same problem long back, and i observed that is submitting, so iam waiting until it's done.
It's good that u only first posted the issue, before somebody could.

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - May 2003
Works fine at work with IE 5.
In point assignment, double clicking doesn't hurt anything, keep trying especially when they are to me.

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - May 2003
I had double-posting-itis yesterday with my tcpdump question. The first one my browser actually crashed (IE6), the second two were double-click on the "done" button. And yes, I know not to do that again, even if the page never changes. I posted my first reply in that thread last night. This morning I had a 404 error on the browser, but the reply did indeed post.

Somebody hit the stop button again! It took 422 seconds to open this thread. Started (or should I say stopped) around 12:15PM EDT.

Also, how is the forum implemented (type of HP servers, s/w used, etc.)
Just curious.

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - May 2003
I've never heard anyone really admit it, but it's been widely rumored that the finest Unix forum in the world runs on MicroSlop. Sad!

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - May 2003
Bill...we are trying to determine where the bottleneck is. We had a similar problem 18 months ago -- turned out to be spyders crawling the site. Took care of that, but that is not the case today. Database looks ok. Usage is not beyond capacity, although its high. We're looking hard into the front end now.
Thanks,
Dan

I believe it always has been. At least it was last August and still is today. Don't know why.

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - May 2003
Interesting (regarding the page count). I wasn't aware that it was erroneous until today. I knew, though, as soon as I poked the 1403rd one, since my first post in the ITRC was July 6, 2000. I guess that makes me a "veteran" here ;-)

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - May 2003
I've finally noticed tonight that the posting issue has disappeared. Replies post on the first try, right away. Whatever happened, it looks like it worked. (Although I see a bunch of double replies by Clay.)
{As a side note, Pete, I can't believe that you actually timed the 422 seconds... You need another hobby or something.}
Hope it helps
John

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - May 2003
No, I didn't time it. Netscape 7.x does it for me. When the page finishes loadking, it says, down at the bottom, "Document: Done (2.94 secs)". It's kind of nice when you're trying to document performance problems for Dan, though I'm sure he's tired of hearing about it.

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - May 2003
Here's an interesting one: I can't get this thread to open at all:
http://forums.itrc.hp.com/cm/QuestionAnswer/1,,0xe5185ec05a7ad711abdc0090277a778c,00.html
I get the following message, no matter how many times I try to reload:
"Error processing SSI file '/cm/QuestionAnswerContent/1,11870,LoggedIn!0xe5185ec05a7ad711abdc0090277a778c!0!1!0!0!0,00.html'"
I even tried IE (don't tell anyone, though - OK) with the same result.

Mine also the same as Pete.

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - May 2003
i use Galeon on Linux. Have been facing problems with opening URL's embeded inside posts. Since it uses some javascript, when i click on it (open in new tab, open in new window), still it opens in the same window. only way is to copy the url and open a new tab and paste it. or else, read the URL and then go back to the original post. it is very annoying.
can this javascript stuff be removed pls.
ps: never had problems with assigning points though. goes thru on the first submit.

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - May 2003
I tried to access a question and received the following error:
Error processing SSI file '/cm/QuestionAnswerContent/1,11870,LoggedIn!0xe5185ec05a7ad711abdc0090277a778c!0!1!0!0!0,00.html'
Another issue is the duplicate answers. When you click in submit it seems to do nothing but actually it has already recorded the answer.
best regards
