Re: Please Report Forums Issues - May 2003

FYI multiple different browsers active on the forum is no problem. Not even on the same page. Digging though the pointing issues I sometimes had 5 different browsers open on the same page.

Could someone do us a bit of a favor and clean up a few of these multiples?

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - May 2003

I've noticed that the site was running very slow. I check a few other sites and didn't notice any speed issues.

Another issue I encounter is that after I hit reply when replying to a forum it seems to take a long time... this could be a result of my other (above mentioned) issue but it's usually not speedy even when the site is.

A third issue I have (which has dramatically improved lately) is that when I assign points and hit submit then go back into the thread the points I just assingned aren't always getting assigned. Like I said - this has been better than it was in the past.

Another issue I have is that my wife nags me too much sometimes - but I doubt you can fix that :)

Yeah Dan.....
I've just started the habit of deleting the cm cookie from my Internet Exploder 5 cache before trying to log in. It just doesn't work if I leave it in place.

Yuck....

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - May 2003

I still have to click on submit (when replying to a question) sometimes multiple times before my reply is loaded - its seems to be worse when the server is busy (ie. pm GMT)

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - May 2003

Hi Dan,

Reporting an issue after a long time =)). I am not sure if this was reported by anybody before. The forums new post's and replies's "submit" button response is very poor. The output of this issue can be seen on the forums lately (multiple answers, multiple posts etc). Users are thinking their posts have not been submitted and that makes them repeating it again and again.

Hope everything is going on well there. Thanks!

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - May 2003

An addendum to Shiju's thoughts, Dan:

I don't know why this has become such a problem lately but, aside from improving the response of the "submit" function, it would seem to me that there must be someway to handle this programmaticly. After all, I can't think of any situations where the user would need to hit the submit button twice - can't the program just ignore the extras?

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - May 2003

Hi Shiju and Pete, the multiple submits are a symptom of the acknolwedgement page not being returned quickly enough. This is an issue that has more to do with the IIS server performance. I've got our support team on this...unfortunately the problem has been very elusive. They hope to have it solved soon. In the meantime, clicking the submit ONCE will submit the post to the database.

Thanks,
Dan

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - May 2003

Hi Dan et al.:

A suggestion for Forum aficionados to increase the positive reinforcement factor associated with the SUBMIT button:

If you run two browser windows to the Forum, it appears that you can see your own reply in a second window *before* the response to the first window is returned.

Regards!

JRF, why did you think I ran 5 browsers at the same time? :)

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - May 2003

JRF - I noticed this as well.

I run Red Hat Linux 7.3 at work and Netscape 7.02

When I look at a thread I open the thread in a new tab usually. When I hit reply I refresh to the original window and notice my post show there before the thread window comes back....

I never thought anyting of it intil reading the previous post by JRF

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - May 2003

Dan,

I've noticed something recently with the Forums regarding the assigning of points. IF you use that Microsoft browser (version 6.0), then the points assignment appears to take on the first try. If you happen to use Netscape (version 7.1 I think) it takes 2 tries for the points assignment to work. If you use Opera 7.10, points assignments don't work at all.

Just some food for thought. Apparently yet another case of developing for a single browser......

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - May 2003

Patrick/Dan,

I have to disagree. I think it depends on the platform, too. I normally use Netscape under HP-UX 11i - it works first time every time assigning points. At home I occasionaly try assigning points using IE under MicroSlop - it rarely works. Can't speak to Opera and I guess I need to try Netscape under MicroSlop next. I always wanted to be a tester!

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - May 2003

Patrick and Pete...well, I'm on the IE version above (5.50) on MS W2K...never a problem. If only there were a standard...(oops, I didn't say that).

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - May 2003

Patrick, Opera asigns points very well nowadays. I have 7.10-2846 and 7.11-2880 and both work on the first submit since about two weeks. No need for a fifth browser :)

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - May 2003

Threads going up again.

Dan, for the last two weeks (this week including) around 5:15-5:45 BST I am not able to use forums. Is it any scheduled outage here? Internet connection is okay as I can get into other sites.

But when I get back, I can see lot of threads going on, which means others were able.

Even though I am in UK, I think I am using asia-pacific site only.

confused,

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - May 2003

Merijn,

What version of Java do you have with Opera? I downloaded and installed 7.11 today and I'm still not able to assign points with it. It doesn't give an error, the points just never get assigned. Any ideas? I'm on Win XP Pro, by the way.

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - May 2003

Opera-7.11-2880 on Win2k/sp-3 with java-1.4.1_02

Almost no problems anymore with ITRC. The occasional 404 of course, but that's not Opera to blame.

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - May 2003

Hello,

Duplicate posts. Several times, when submit, it seems that nothing occurs, click again and again and at last, two, three, or more posts.

As I see I'm not the only one with this problem.

Regards, Vicente.
