Thanks Stuart for the confirmation. Just did a refresh on the hp-ux forum and all the top 25 list was garbage - full of java/xml code!

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - November 2003!

Hi Dan,

I use the forums a lot to search for answers and figure out how stuff works. I sort the results by date so I can read the most recent stuff first.

Today I noticed that all of my search results had a newer date (no matter how old the post was). Everything seemed to be from Nov 11-13, 2003.

Thanks,
-Denver

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - November 2003!

Seems like the Forum database primary indices are getting worse and worse. While using the Forum search engine all this week none of the "all words" searches came back with accuracy. And once, but no longer, I could put my own name in and pull threads.

I'm sorry, but its just a mess. And I think your DBA's are in way over their heads because so much degradation has occurred.

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - November 2003!

Hi,

I have got two things:
1. From time to time the forum tries to login into the european section but fails, because my account is american/pacific.
2. I was doing a search and I am wondering. What is the date in the list? It was from today, but nothing in the thread has any date from today! It started in Oct. 2001 and ended there too!

greetings

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - November 2003!

Hi,

now I have it too:
I have assigned points to 102 of 101 responses to
deleting a thread leaves the database in an inconsistent state.

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - November 2003!

Hi,

one more thing:

When you hit reply, you loose sight of what has been posted before. So in order to refer to more than one posting, you must open a second window as a reminder. I have seen a website, where, when you post, the current postings are shown below the input field in the order, I mentioned in the first suggestion. This is very handy to refer to other postings.

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - November 2003!

Hi,

one more. I would like to know, if I get new points, where they are from. Could the assigned points be put into the list, where you can see, what posts have been rated.

greetings,

Michael

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - November 2003!

Hi All,

We are working on the 'unavailable' issue now and hope to find a cause soon. Also, the search functionality needs a minor fix which we are planning to install. Regarding the points in profiles that are negative, Pete is correct -- this is due to a thread being deleted. We will implement a patch for this in a couple of weeks.

Michael Shulte, I've noted your enhancement requests. Also, the search date is the date of the original question.

Thanks,
Dan

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - November 2003!

Hi Dan,

what have you done to your system? Replaced it by a cluster of two Commodore C64? ;-)
It is sooooo slow!! Thants no fun anymore. :-((. Concering the date in the search result list, try searching steve and the first itme will have a date Nov 2003, while the entire thread is from 2002.

Dan,

This poor guy can't see they replies to his question (which concerns the fact that he can't see the replies):

Maybe you could email him some suggestions about using a different browser or something?

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - November 2003!

Hi Dan,

could you mark the unrated posts in the list, so I can see, which threads "stalled"?

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - November 2003!

Dan,

I'd like to ask why the post RE "Interests other than IT" was pulled?

I'm sure we'd all appreciate an official answer as to why *exactly* that post was pulled.

It was not IMO so far off-topic as to require this action.

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - November 2003!

Dan,

As Jeff points out, it seems to me that the moderators are getting a little "quick with the hook" of late. Refer to this thread for details (assuming it hasn't been yanked already):

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - November 2003!

Dan,

Since the censors obviously are looking for something to delete, why don't you point them to this thread:
http://forums1.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?threadId=250906&admit=716493758+1069274912291+28353475
the attack by the author of that thread has already done it's damage, but there is no reason to keep the evidence around.

You might point out to them that this is the type of thing they should be searching for, not honest & faithful contributors that are just looking for a little bit of a break from the norms...
