Please Report Forums Issues - November 2003!

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - November 2003!

Wow, I've never seen corruption in the Patch database search engine but's its now messed up like the forum search engine.

http://forums1.itrc.hp.com/service/ciss/doLogin.do?TargetPage=http%3A%2F%2Fforums1.itrc.hp.com%2Fservice%2Fforums%2Fpostanswer.do%3Fthreadid%3D265214%26forumId%3D1

Patch dependencies are not coming along on searches and "Search by Patch ID" produces incorrect results while "Search by Keyword", when using the patch name, works. Search by keyword is for product names like ServiceGuard. While Search by Patch ID is just what it infers.

Also, I can only get my postings going back one month in the Forum search engine. Everything else fails to come up.

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - November 2003!

Dan,

I know I'm getting senile but I didn't think it was this bad yet. The above link that I referred to should have been:

http://forums1.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?threadId=264128

As soon as I post this, I will verify that it points where I think it should. If it later ends up pointing to the home page again . . . well, we'll know it got changed.

If anyone out there could please test to post a message here with Opera-7.11 (no other version) without attachment, that would help Opera

For the past 5 hours it's been impossible for me to connect to any HP site, constantly producing 404 errors. Other sites have been fine.

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - November 2003!

Dan,

I'll second Chris's comments. None of the ITRC host names could be resolved. I could get to things like docs.hp.com and hp.com but nothing ITRC related would resolve. I know Volkmar had issues as well, so I would guess it was a total outage.

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - November 2003!

Ok, so it was a network (DNS Server) issue as you all figured out. All the external sites were not able to be accessed from around 3:30am EST. Obviously, they are up now. I apologize for the squirrels not being fed.

Thanks,
Dan

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - November 2003!

I was wondering if HP has a position on this thread?

http://forums1.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?threadId=264128

I would like to hear what they have to say. Naturally I think the point I made was the best, but it points out a creeping issue that we'd like to hear from HP on.

Again.

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - November 2003!

Dan,

It would seem as if this thread got moved prematurely. Apparently the person that moved it wasn't familiar with the machine and just had a knee-jerk reaction to a statement from another poster in the thread.

http://forums1.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?threadId=267292

If you agree that it should be moved back, could you have someone take care of that (please).

Just because it's a B class workstation doesn't mean that it shouldn't get the same respect as any other HP-UX box, does it?

John.

PS. How is the work on the 'cut & paste from M$' comming? I see it isn't fixed

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - November 2003!

First thanks for adding the preview button that makes it nice to see what the post will look like.

However, I belive your MB needs another overhaul.

1) To take pressure off your moderators. We should be able to remove our own post if it has no replies or if it was a duplicate.

2) Can we have a way to "close a post" once our problem is resolved to prevent unnecessary additional posters from running down our point award %?

3) Can we have a way to RE-edit our original post as the Poster...

4) What about doing Polls. This may lead to off topic postings. but may work well in a non-technical forum as previously suggested.

5) Allow for a "printable" version of a forum thread without all the extra pics and headers being printed.

Thats all for now :D

Great site keep up the good work Dan, et al.

good ideas. closing a thread will prevent people from misusing it as offset for their questions. You discontinue emailing and wonder, where the unrated posts come from.

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - November 2003!

Michael,

If the extraneous posts are worthless, assign them zero points, that will maintain your assignment percentage.

If I want no further posts in a thread, I post back saying its closed, warning zero points for further input.

I rarely do that, because sometimes there is valuable input even after solution.

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - November 2003!

Michael,

If you want to continue your 100% rate, i would suggest *NOT* discontinuing notification on any of the posts you make. It doesn't hurt to have the notifications active, and it is the best way to know if someone posts much later.

-Josh

PS the only notifications I discontiue are to posts i didn't make.

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - November 2003!

Hi Dan,

doing a search I always come to us.support.itrc.hp.com where I'm not allowed to login.
Before HP changed the sites I always came directly to the european site.

Can it be changed again?

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - November 2003!

Hi Dan,
I use MS Explorer and have no other possibility.
Yesterday I used the "Preview" button in connection with a reply. My potential answer was then displayed "forum-like". However, I hit the "Edit" button in order to correct a spelling error. I was then returned to the reply window, which was not completely empty. Is that how it is supposed to work? My potential answer held no offending material as far as I remember.

regards,
John K.

Hi Dan,

strange thing. More and more parts of the menues come up in German, at least sometimes. At home I have the problem, that some items like dividers dont show up.

greetings,
