Re: Please Report Forums Issues -- October 2003!

I also get these errors but as an interesting side issue, from time to time the list of top posters is empty on the main forum page and occasionally, if you click on a hat icon in the sidebar, instead of a list of owners of said hat, you get a "null" list.

Never preceed any demonstration with anything more predictive than "watch this"

Re: Please Report Forums Issues -- October 2003!

Dan,

Me, too! Reloading *several* times will generally get you where you intended to go, but the failures are so consistent and the reloads require so many attempts that the Forums are really unuseable.

Re: Please Report Forums Issues -- October 2003!

I agree with Pete R the forums are almost unuseable. Too many "Service Unavailable" messages.

By the way how do you achieve the spacing between the sentences?

Re: Please Report Forums Issues -- October 2003!

Hi SM,

Use the space bar to place a space in the sentence.

Re: Please Report Forums Issues -- October 2003!

You can insert a space between sentences by using the space bar on the line you want blank.

By, the way, for me at least the forums have been back to normal for the last 45 minutes or so! Thanks!

Re: Please Report Forums Issues -- October 2003!

Was this a day from ITRC Forum hell? What happened? I couldn't connect and kept getting 12001 errors. Once in awhile I'd get the HP-UX forum but I could never put two commands together. So when I did get the HP-UX forum I couldn't open anything. Nor could I resond to my emailed responses.

I don't know when the problem went away but at 12:45 PM ET I tried again after giving up around 10:45 and now I can connect.

This is worse than any missing links in the search engine.

This is like closing down and moving away.

System was unstable earlier in the day, but appears to be stable now. (2:45PM EST)

Re: Please Report Forums Issues -- October 2003!

Dan,

Most everything is stable, but I still have issues submitting responses. Almost invariable, I hit the submit button and get a 404 error. I then use the brower's back button and hit submit again. Usually it succeeds on the first retry.

No more summary emails with thet day's new postings. That was helpful. Seems broken after the Sept. update.

Re: Please Report Forums Issues -- October 2003!

Hi All, thanks for reporting the 'unavailable' error today. The support team saw the messages and investigated. They think it may be related to the daily email that is not completing its run. So, both issues are in a high state of visibility and hopefully will be worked out soon.

Thanks,

hi Dan,

i was working late yesterday night and i found that the forum was working fine. it was so difficult to even read a message in the morning.
i guess the support team is working on the errors encountered yesterday.

i am attaching the file with links and errors.i dont know how many times i will have to try before i am able to post it

Re: Please Report Forums Issues -- October 2003!

Dan,

Getting lots of "unavailables" again this morning! It took four tries to open this reply window - I can't wait to see how many attempts it takes to submit it. The counter below should be the number of attempts:

Re: Please Report Forums Issues -- October 2003!

Dan,

While things are definitely better in terms of the "unavailable" errors, the ability to respond to questions is still seriously impaired. It took me three tries to open this reply window, and lately it's been taking 5 or 6 tries to actually submit the reply.

Let's count:
