Re: Please Report Forums Issues -- October 2003!
I just wanted to report that the "unavailable" problems of the last couple of days seem to have been resolved. I've had no problems at all so far this morning. Thanks to you and the team!

Re: Please Report Forums Issues -- October 2003!
Went to forums, hit reply on a post, was prompted for my password, next screen said, yeah, two ids conform to that password, which one do you want to use. I picked the one I always use and it won't work. Keeps bouncing me back to that pick an id screen.
Works fine in Microsoft Exploder. I hate Microsoft Exploder because I can't block popups on other sites like the one Mrs. Protter let trash this box.

Re: Please Report Forums Issues -- October 2003!
2. Still no posting with Opera 7. Neither with the Win32 builds, nor with the Linux builds.
3. Derived pages still way to slow (4 kbps vs 40 kbps for home pages)
5. Solutions in one's home page still not show the most recent solutions makiung the list rather useless
6. The number of posted messages derived through the formula I posted in private to Dan before is still below the old situation. Don't know what to do about it, and I also don't oversee the consequences for the stats. Currently I think only the avarage points per post will rise.
7. The stats thread is still missing all it's vital info, making me feel somewhat uncomfortable.
8. Quicksearch still jumps to the U.S. (could not login)
9. Dates are still non-iso :[
10. Even in Mozilla I get "could not open URL" regularly when posting. Back, submit again most often helps, but I refuse to use M$IE
I see people answering questions that I would normally have answered immediately, and - in case of perl questions - probably even better. I love to see that my page is being refered to more and more often, and that the traffic proves it to be useful. Remember however that these pages were a spinoff of my enthousiasm of working on this forum. Taking away support for my favourite browser really bugs me. This is nothing personal Dan, you know that, but I have to vent my annoyance.
To summarize. If I were to be confronted with this forum right now, instead of back in 2002, I would not have stayed, but left without regret.
Enjoy, have FUN! H.Merijn

Re: Please Report Forums Issues -- October 2003!
I would also love it if you could divide the My Responses into two categories. The first would be the ones with no points sorted by last posted dates first. The second would be those with points sorted by the day the points were awarded with the most recent at the top. Again, I would like to give my "paying" customers priority and it would help to followup on unsolved problems.

Re: Please Report Forums Issues -- October 2003!
It's been mentioned before, but I've heard no response so I'll ask again:
Some threads seem to have lost something in the translation. Merijn's statistics postings are a prime example. If you open the thread the initial entry itself is absent. I've seen others mention that their comments have been replaced by someone else's. I've just noticed a similar discrepancy in Patrick's etiquette thread. There are references to comments that I had made but my comments are no longer even there (remember the infamous RPW incident?).
Obviously some damage has occured to the Forum contents. Are there plans to fix this damage?

Click that, click his first response.
Its not JRF.
Its someone elses post from back in 1999.
The database appears to be a bit, shall we euphamize, corrupt.

It wasn't happening on every post, but often enough to make it annoying.

Re: Please Report Forums Issues -- October 2003!
the "my forums points" area is updating (at least the points are going up), but "my solutions" and "my responses" areas haven't changed at all.

Re: Please Report Forums Issues -- October 2003!
Those areas aren't changing because they are old responses and solutions. The sort for the display on that page is the opposite of what it should be. That issue has been reported.
If you want to see your most recent solutions and responses just click on the "more..." link for each section and those lists will be sorted with the newest entries first.
Dan --- My first 2 attempts to post this have resulted in:

Re: Please Report Forums Issues -- October 2003!
not only did it remove the empty lines (for which I forgot to put a single space), but it removed *all* line endings, making it rather hard to read.
I don't dare to think about what will happen to code snippets :-P

Re: Please Report Forums Issues -- October 2003!
Here's a weird one..
http://forums1.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?threadId=231299
This thread is on the top page - top post actually at the moment & it has 4 or 5 actual replies, but the Replies column is zero.
Is it in mid-move or something?
Puzzled,
Jeff

At home IE 6 kept reporting errors, which have been posted numerous times.
Mozilla problem is still present.
Sorry Merijn

Re: Please Report Forums Issues -- October 2003!
Pray tell, how many times per day would your servers like me to login?
I just wish to know what's expected of this lowly forum serf.
It's ironic that my POS browser - IE - can remember my login info, but the servers upon which we ply cannot.
Faithful yet Discontent,
Jeff

Re: Please Report Forums Issues -- October 2003!
Edit Profile error result -business error result - INVALID USER ID
even tho the border of the page came up and said Welcome Ron Kinner. Took 4 resends before it finallly worked.
The bit I complained about last time comes and goes. Sometimes when a post fails you can back page and repost, sometimes the back page is blank and you have to retype everything if you forgot to copy the post before submitting.

Re: Please Report Forums Issues -- October 2003!
1 question for you and 2 comments.
Question: You know all the garbage characters in the posts? Is the data being saved in the database the same as the garbage being displayed?
Reason I ask is, when a fix is discovered will there be a database conversion to retranslate all the bad data back to what it's supposed to be? Or will there be garbage forever in these responses?
Comment 1: Please ask the coders to review first normal form and other levels of database normalization. I'm sure they don't need the patronization but this should have been caught in testing.
Comment 2: These loss of server, service and loss of connection errors, (* The 12001 errors, etc., *) ITRC was never this bad. Its close to intolerable.
Not having a good experience.

Re: Please Report Forums Issues -- October 2003!
I still counsel patience, I think its getting better.
Tim, are you sure you are using the correct numeric itrc id? I have never heard a case of point loss in my two years of membership.

Also would like to know why in Netscape 7.1 and IE 6.0 my CRLFs don't show up.
There should be three CRLF above this line but there won't be.

Until they come up with a fix for the CRLF problem, use the space bar to insert a space on lines you want blank.
