Print to one tray only

We have a hp5000n printer set up on hpux 11 and want to print to one tray only. We used the hp jet admin utility to set it up but there were not any options available for the trays. Can a single tray be specified by modifying one of the /etc/interface files?

Jason,

You could try adding the "-o bin#" option to your lp command.

Re: Print to one tray only

These folks are printing from within a product called unidata and they do not utilize an actual lp command from there. They only specify the printer to where the job is to be directed.

Put a wrapper for your lp command. Be forewarned that any patch that overwrites lp, will overwrite the lp wrapper.

Re: Print to one tray only

In the /etc/lp/interface/model.orig you could modify a file for that specific printer. But remember this modification would be in effect for all users going to that printer. Not a very good idea. You may want to add a new printer and try the modification there. Also, if the driver you selected does not have the multiple tray capabilities then ...

Is there a configuration file you could modify within the unidata app? This would be the way to go.

Re: Print to one tray only

There is no problem creating another printer for this one as unidata uses the printers installed within HPUX. Basically that is what I was wanting to know, if the printer file in model.orig could be modified to do this.
