Re: Problem with my dvd-rom on hpux
I think the message is probably bogus, at least as far as what it recommends. If your device shipped with our system its not likely there is a driver problem.
I'd have the latest Hardware Enablement patches in anyway, but more than likely there is a physical problem with the device.
I suggest testing it with mstm or cstm or xstm and seeing if there is a detectable problem.
Lastly, if it works, you might want to just use it until it dies. That depends on your tolerance for how long it will take to get HP out to replace it.

Re: Problem with my dvd-rom on hpux
Have you checked your DVD drive , thats its reading correctly.
Also check with cstm ( #/usr/bin/cstm ) for any error.

Raj.

Re: Problem with my dvd-rom on hpux
Did you test to mount & read the CD/DVD (eg. HP-UX Application CD), to make sure your DVD-ROM working properly ?
If you dont have any problem with the test above, it looks like the message is a bogus message.
I saw your STM version is quite old (ver. A.23.00). I refer you to update the OnlineDiagnostics (which STM software included in this) to the latest one (Dec 2004 with ver A.45.00) and also update the HWEnablement patch bundle.
Hope this information can help you.
Cheers,
AW

Re: Problem with my dvd-rom on hpux
Which is the OS version. You can get the version of the "HWEnable" Patch by
#swlist|grep "HWEnable" ...
HWEnable11i B.11.11.0412.5 Hardware Enablement Patches for HP-UX 11i v1, December 2004
Or else u can use 'swlist -l patch' to display all patches that is installed in your machine. I prefer u to to use the first one, which i have mentined.
Well this is an external drive, so you need to do some basic checks before digging more deep.
1. Check the SCSI terminator at both DVD drive and PCI card side. Remove it and refix it, ensure that the dvd rom is powered off before doing the same.
2. Check the cable connectivites and refix it .
3. Check the controller in which the DVD is connected( I mean interface).
4. At last, if the dvd drive a latest one, better download latest release of HWEnable patch and install. Post o/p of #swlist|grep "HWEnable" and uname -a
