Problem with SAM

While I was out for xmas break someone broke SAM on my server. The users and groups section is missing and I get an error when I try to look at my disk volumes.

Any ideas as to what the problem could be and how to fix it?

rp3440-4 w/ HP-UX 11.23

Thanks for the help.

Re: Problem with SAM

Jeffrey,

You can use this to find out what went wrong and what commands were executed during your absence,

View only the commands executed by SAM on behalf of user tom, between 8am June 5, 1994 and 10pm August 14, 1994, and view the data interactively:

# /usr/lbin/samlog_viewer -s 060508001994 -e 081422001994 -lC -u tom

What type of error do you get?

Also it would be a good idea to check the sam library files , /usr/sam/lib/* ,

And comapre with with a good system.

Here is a list that resides under /usr/sam/lib/

Re: Problem with SAM

Besides the face that the User/Group icon is no longer showing up on the main SAM screen this is the error I am getting when I try to look at my disk information:

Re: Problem with SAM

Hi,

either update the patch level of SAM or,
if there is a SAM patch installed at your system, try to uninstall and reinstall it.
So all files required by SAM will be (re)installed.

Re: Problem with SAM

I have looked at my system and nothing jumps out at me that looks like a SAM patch. Can you tell me what patch(s) I am looking for?

Re: Problem with SAM

Check out the following TKB doc:

Submitted Date: 9/5/01
Title: SAM: disks: infrastructural error
Document ID: KBRCKBRC00007933
Last Modified Date: 8/5/05
http://www2.itrc.hp.com/service/cki/docDisplay.do?docLocale=en_US&docId=200000080045468

The document is for HP-UX 11.0, but the error is almost exactly the same as what you are getting.

Go through the steps and see if they help.

By the way, the SAM cumulative patch for HP-UX 11.23 is PHCO_34208.

Re: Problem with SAM

I have applied patch PHCO_34208 but that doesn't seem like that fixed my problem. Is there a way to remove sam from my system and then reinstall sam onto my server?

Would removing and reinstalling the path be any help?

Re: Problem with SAM

After installing the patch PHCO_34280 I had to run swlist -l fileset -a state -a revision and found that the patch was installed but not configured. I ran swconfig \* which configured SAM and then I was able to use it again.

THanks for all the help.
