Problems to access to server by telnet and running rmsh commands

Hi ..
This is the server in question:

Server HP-UX 11.0
1.- If i run command ping server-unix, this works correctly
2.- If i run telnet command i cannot access to that server
3.- If i run remsh commands i do not have answer
4.- I tried to put a console in that server to verify what is happening but it does not work ...

what could be happening?

I have a application running the named SAP, and if i try to access by icon the application runs correctly ...

why can i not to reach the server by telnet command?

Thanks ...

Re: Problems to access to server by telnet and running rmsh commands

Most likely cause is that those services are disabled in the /etc/inetd.conf file.

Check the /etc/inetd.conf and /etc/services file on the remote system and see if the following lines are listed:

/etc/inetd.conf:
telnet stream tcp nowait root /usr/lbin/telnetd telnetd
login stream tcp nowait root /usr/lbin/rlogind rlogind
shell stream tcp nowait root /usr/lbin/remshd remshd

/etc/services:
telnet 23/tcp # Virtual Terminal Protocol

Re: Problems to access to server by telnet and running rmsh commands

In addition, SAP may have it's own listener and not use inetd so the fundamental problem may be that inetd has died and needs to be restarted. That's actually the classic symptom of a box that can be pinged but nothing else under the control of inetd works.
If it ain't broke, I can fix that.

Hi Manuales

Your system seems to be gone hang with a problem.

I can guess a situation from your explanation,
Maybe a problem cause the system down and while system goes down there was a something to hinder.

If your system do not work as you stated no 4. you have to try to get crash dump compulsorily with MP comand

Just My guess

Re: Problems to access to server by telnet and running rmsh commands

Do you have access via Secure Shell (ssh) perhaps?

What type of server do you have? Where are you plugging the console in? Is there a web console or lan console you can access?

Who set this machine up? If you are the primary administrator and don't know how to access your machine, then I have some serious concerns.

Re: Problems to access to server by telnet and running rmsh commands

You access via secure shell with the 'ssh' command. Try 'man ssh' for information.

If the lan console is set up, and you know the IP address, try to telnet to it.

If you have a terminal console, then you should be able to just plug into the console port on the back of the machine. The port is a 9-pin serial plug that should be labeled 'console'.

Re: Problems to access to server by telnet and running rmsh commands

What EXACTLY does the prompt you have look like?
o.k
When i reset the button named GSP console located back the server appearsa a screen talking about GSP mode.

When i run "co" i leave that menu and appears a legend that says:
"leaving guardian service Processor... command interface and entering console mode"
Type ctrl-b to reactivate the GSP command interface ..."

If i run ctrl-b appears:
GSP>

and if i run co into that menu mentioned above i go out of that menu ...

and then only appears nothing , i mean, is a black monitor if i enter enter ...

i'd like to know how can i go to the menu where ask for login and password ...

PLEASE HELP ...

Thanks.

Re: Problems to access to server by telnet and running rmsh commands

Try
At the bleck screen, Ctl+C, Ctl+Z, or Ctl+D
or :q!

Look like someone issued a command on console and not finish yet.

Re: Problems to access to server by telnet and running rmsh commands

It is possible that when you type 'co' to go back to console mode, that you are not in "interactive" mode.

Try this:

Type 'co' to back to console mode.

Now do a CTRLR-e followed by a 'c' followed by an 'f'. That is: CTRL-E, then C, then F (the letters do not have to be upper case. And you do not have to hold down the CTRL key when you do the C and F). Once you do that, hit return a couple of times and see if anything happens.

Re: Problems to access to server by telnet and running rmsh commands

Hi Manuales,

IF u say sap application is running then server looks like live.
If you can not login from console and can see the gsp prompt. I suggest that you configure remote console from GSP and then try to login.

At GSP prompt , type "he" command for help.
you will see many caommand there.

use lc command for lan configuration, but you need one extra IP address and one lan port . Make sure that your connect the cable on right remote console port on server.

Hope this will help you to login to server.

Good luck .
