Problems with "rsh" commands

Hi,

We have a peculiar problem here. We are trying to run rsh commands from windows m/c on hpux server. When we put + in front of the windows m/c name in the .rhosts file of hpux m/c, the rsh commands work fine. But, if we put user names on the windows m/c instead of +, it fails. Can someone through light on this issue ??

Thanks & Regards,
Ramesh.K.R.

Re: Problems with "rsh" commands

Hi,

I think hp-ux is not able to determine which user tries to log in.

Re: Problems with "rsh" commands

Ramesh,
Is the users visible to the hpux server. This applies only when the users are available locally also.

Re: Problems with "rsh" commands

Hi,

Let me elaborate my problem little more in detail:
If i use a local a/c on windows m/c, rsh works fine(rhosts: ). But, if i use a domain a/c, rsh dosen't go through.

Re: Problems with "rsh" commands

C:\>rsh shimsha -l root ls
shimsha.india.hp.com: remshd: Login incorrect.
rsh: can't establish connection

here, "shimsha" is the unix server name

Hi,

I want to add one more quistion here. Is there any option to put domain name(NT domain) in the .rhosts file of hpux ?? If so, what is it ??

Re: Problems with "rsh" commands

I've never tried it, but would go for the same syntax windows uses:
\
or something like that...

Did you ever get to the bottom of this? I am having the same problem.

Re: Problems with "rsh" commands

Elmar is maybe on the way. But when specifying domain, I think a / is used rather than a \. Try the same with domain/user.
