In one package, I add a volume group.
I add this VG to cluster ascii file.
I run cmcheckconf and all are valid.
Can I run
cmapplyconf -C /etc/cmcluster/cluster1.ascii without halt any package or entire cluster ?
thanks

Re: Reconfiguring a MC/Serviceguard cluster
Don't believe so - check this link:
http://docs.hp.com/cgi-bin/fsearch/framedisplay?top=/hpux/onlinedocs/B5158-90024/B5158-90024_top.html&con=/hpux/onlinedocs/B5158-90024/00/00/41-con.html&toc=/hpux/onlinedocs/B5158-90024/00/00/41-toc.html&searchterms=cmapplyconf&queryid=20020228-143310
You CAN apply the new conf - but change will not take effect 'til you bounce the cluster.
Believe this is due to cmapplyconf generating/distributing a new binary.

SolutionAdding a new VG to the cluster does not necessarily need the cluster to be halted.
If the cmacheckconf or the cmapplyconf do NOT expressly tell you the action cannot be performed while the cluster is up, then it is ok.
There is a table of what can and cannot be done in the Managing MC/ServiceGuard manual available at:
http://docs.hp.com/hpux/ha
and read through the section on Modifying the Cluster and Packages

Re: Reconfiguring a MC/Serviceguard cluster
You do not need to stop and start the pkg to add a volume group to your cluster but it would be the cautious approach if you want to take that path. Nothing wrong in being cautious.

Re: Reconfiguring a MC/Serviceguard cluster
I was looking for that manual as I didn't have it w/me.
And I remembered that section - just not the details.
But my ITRC searches were not finding it.
Question => Do ITRC searches hit the docs.hp.com domain when you click the Manuals button? If so I'm curious as to why searches "Service Guard" & "M/C Service Guard" would not give that link?
Thanks,
Jeff
