Please post replies to this message to let me know of the issues you experienced using the HP forums. I heard about SSI errors, performance issues, javascript errors,.. I would like to get a clearer picture of what is happening today, so that we know where to concentrate our efforts.
Help me keep our developers busy!
thanks in advance

Re: Report forums issues! [1/2]
Yesterday, I kept getting that nice big 404 I think it says unable to open. But if I was patient and kept retrying, eventually (after 4 or 5 trys) I usually got the post.

The onlt problems I have lately is slowness, and it seems that half the time is taken just loading the top bar images.

Re: Report forums issues! [1/2]
When I tried to call my bookmark:
http://forums.itrc.hp.com/cm/
I'm getting the next error:
Error processing SSI file '/cm/HomeContent/1,1151,,00.html'
Not always, sometimes. a few minutes ago.

Re: Report forums issues! [1/2]
When I log on, the screen changes and I lose the links and all the stuff on the left side of the screen. I also lose the header links and graphics. The only link area I still have is the "useful links" area; the rest are all gone. It also looks like the font size goes up a few points. I have to change screens (go back to hp-ux or something) before everything goes back to normal; refreshing will not do anything.

Re: Report forums issues! [1/2]
There has been some improvement when you compare it to the conditions that we were experiencing during the last two months of last year. I have recently run into some other websites (non HP) that seem to be experiencing the same sort of errors and they have the same poor response 'feel'. Performing a simple Google search on 'SSI error' shows that these errors have become common. This suggests to me that there is something very wrong with the underlying database engine/webpage technology.

Re: Report forums issues! [1/2]
However these errors seem to have become more apparent since last weekend .... was some work done on the ITRC servers at the weekend .... not much was posted during this period ?
As to the others .... I find them intermittent .... but the 404 has definitley become more regular.

Re: Report forums issues! [1/2]
I am still experiencing very occasional SSI and '404' errors. They seem to happen when attempting to open a community post -- either a current one, or one returned from a search.
Another very annoying anomoly is the dead link. When an ITRC administrator moves a question in the Forum, leaving the hyperlink that says ?This question has been moved. Click here to view.?, the link cannot be followed.
That is, clicking on the ?here? gives a
404 (file not found) error.
As an example, look at Richard Barr's posts in the Servers (e3000 & 9000) forum:
. ?ps -ef?
. ?Fast Ether Channel?
...BTW, I reported this on 02/13 [ITRC Feedback #769138g]...
On a positive note, most of the problems we've fought through since the November upgrade are gone (thankfully!).
Your solicitation of trouble reports by posting this query is very much appreciated. I'd like to see a formalization of this process, though, and a corollary one, too:
I think we need TWO, new general places from which we can "weave" threads: (1) a New Feature Suggestion (NFS) board whereon the community could post enhancement suggestions for discussion; and (2) a "Field Trouble Report" (FTR) board where known problems are posted BOTH by the Forum CA and by the community at large.
The NFS board would be the input engine for future features. The FTR board would go a long way to eliminating frustration and needless duplication of posts and reports when problems exist that cannot be immediately rectified.
I would suggest that a new Family house both these categories.
Thanks for listening, and again, "welcome aboard"! With warm regards, Jim.

Re: Report forums issues! [1/2]
Also today the errors are still there.
I was browsing the hpux forum site and want to
go back to this one:
Error processing SSI file '/cm/HomeContent/1,1151,,00.html'
Hopes it helps again.

Re: Report forums issues! [1/2]
I login through the europe-site, which reports a syntax error every time on page
http://europe-support.external.hp.com/login/bin/doc.pl/screen=loginServiceLoginForm/sid=e9b040ce135bb837d0?Service=ESTAFF
It does not affect functionality, but still reports errors (';' missing) either at line 808 col 5 or line 853 col 5.
BTW, you should update the notification footers, as you are the one in charge now :-).
You are doing a great job with this forum.

Re: Report forums issues! [1/2]
Had a ssi error this morning when i tried to access the ITRC server.
The 404 Object not found still appears from time to time, but this seems to be a performance problem on your server site.
If i try it several times, i usually get through. Is the new program for the ITRC server in place now or is it being replaced piece by piece ?

Re: Report forums issues! [1/2]
i got a 404 Error today which was resolved by hitting reload. SSi Errors have become pretty seldom, the last one i remember is several days ago.
Other than the 404 the SSI error needs often more than one reload.

Re: Report forums issues! [1/2]
A couple 404 and SCSI errors, but that's not my reason for this posting.
I am the one who got hit by that virus. Seems they have not gotten the approval to put new upgrades to the PC's for virus-protection here, just the servers.
(I work for govt...and it takes forever to get anything approved and done..our NT/PC guy is stuck !) So now my PC is/will propogate this virus....at least for MSWord docs I'm told. Needless to say I will not be using MSWord for awhile now.
..But my point is .. anything you folks could do to prevent allowing viruses to travel through the site would really be helpful...
...cough cough...excuse me, I must have caught a virus...ha ha
Thanks,
Rita

Re: Report forums issues! [1/2]
Because of speed I usually have two browser windows open. 1 to read, and the other to post, or get the the next page of posts, etc....
It seems like I get the most error404's if I do anything too quickly between the two windows. I.E. post in window1, and go to next page in window2.
Thanks for the interest in fixing it! :)
Regards,
Shannon
