Samba 2.0.7 and windows 2000 native mode

Dear All,

We have to turn windows 2000 native mode on as part of a security review.
Please advice us what could stop working in samba 2.0.7 currently used for file sharing and in production servers.

Also what other options available for us to upgrade if the samba 2.0.7 breaks. Any suggestions highly appreciated.

thanks, Thomas.

Hi Thomas/Richard,

Samba 2.0.7 is very old, and I believe has some security issues. If you want an HP-supported version of Samba, then take a look at CIFS/9000 from http://software.hp.com

You will need to share more info about your environment before anyone can specify what is likely to stop working in your Samba configuration. At the very least which security method are you using?

regards,

Darren.

Re: Samba 2.0.7 and windows 2000 native mode

Hi Darren,
Thanks for the reply.

We are using domain security to validate samba. We wanted to turn our Active Directory in to windows 2000 native mode to stop null connections.

We have hpux 11.00 and using samba 2.0.7 for unix directory shares to windows clients. Application folders in unix are shared through samba to domain users in windows. most of them are xp or windows professional users.

my question is based on turning the active directoy into native mode and how that affect our samba shares.

thanks,Thomas
