Re: Samba 2.2.3a on HP-UX 10.20
Looks like the full product didn't get installed. What do you get with the following command?.
swlist -l file samba
Replace samba with what appears in "swlist" command.

I didn't say swlist would help you fix the problem. It will only help you verify the installation.
Now, do a tar tvf samba.depot (or whatever the depot you used) and look at the contents. They should have /opt/samba directory hierarchy listed.
It looks to me like the complete product didn't get installed.

In the samba depot display only /opt/samba directory. Inside him have another dirs.(ex.: bin,lib,man,doc...)

Re: Samba 2.2.3a on HP-UX 10.20
Can you execute /opt/samba/bin/swat?.
GUI for samba configuration. If it works, then try creating a samba share. It should create a smb.conf file.

SolutionI don't think samba comes with a default smb.conf file with the package. YOu will need to create one. You don't need to have a graphic console to the box. If you have exceed or some X-windows emulation software, you can export display over there and execute swap.
Good documentation on smb.conf is given here. YOu will need to create one under /opt/samba/lib/smb.conf (default)
