Scroll Lock Key problem.

Team:

We are runnning Xmotif applications on nclass running 11.0 with cde. On a particular application when launched the data enrty fields put and _(underscore) character in front of any characters that we type. we are able to type only if we turn off the scroll lock. What could be the issue?lease give me some directions.

Thanks

Re: Scroll Lock Key problem.

Not heard of this so I suspect

a) this maybe application specific have you consulted the vendor ?
What's the applications name ?

b) I presume this is running (displaying) on a PC, have you tried it on a local HP workstation or server with a graphics card ?

c) Has is just started occuring, if you any patches installed recently ..I'd be think motif imparticularly ?

It have a link to the Language setting, if you are not using C, please try and comment: can be set prior to CDE login from CDE options on CDE login screen.

sorry for not being able to help further ...

Re: Scroll Lock Key problem.

It maybe an stty but I'd be v.surprised since it sounds as if it's within the entry fields of the gui and not the command line.

what I meant by the above points :

a) this maybe an application bug since you report only one application is affected

b) N-classes generally don't run CDE/Xserver locally unless they have a graphics card installed so I suspect the CDE and GUI are being displayed remotely ... in which case it may be a problem for the remote H/w S/W being used eg keyboard mapping etc for s/w such as Exceed or reflections X which are 2 common PC X emulation packages used.
c) Maybe caused by an HP Patch, in so much as the patch may have clamped down on a programming hole which the vendor of the application may have not accounted for similar to a)

As to the options / language remark ... Prior to login to CDE you probably see the CDE login screen ... where you enter username & passwrod, underneath this is an options->Language->C

it may already be set to this and even if not it may not resolve your problem but I've found on occasion some developers code their applications to use the default C locale ... it's worth ago but I would hold your breath.

ps what's the application and have you contacted the vendor if this is the only application having this problem ..

Re: Scroll Lock Key problem.

Hi Alex:

You are right. We are using Metaframe for Unix (citrix) and the vendor says it is a HP patch issue (CDE). So i am confused, If it is a patch issue then what patch would fix this?

Thanks
David.

Re: Scroll Lock Key problem.

Could you push back on citrix and get an explanation as to why it's an hpux patch issue ... if they are so certain it shouldn't be a problem.

Most likely candidate is a motif patch latest = PHSS_28368 but I checked the documentation and didn't see any fixes that may fix this or cause it.

NB Note that only 1 application appears to be affected or is this not the case ... are the sam gui, or similar HP gui applications affected ?

I'll try to get someone who maybe more aware of v.recent issues to comment. If you have a support contract with HP it maybe worthwhile raising a s/w call with your local RC just in case.
