Hey everyone,
I just updated to 8.11 and trying to get used to the new options here. The access.db is new to me I am used to /etc/mail/Spammer , /etc/mail/DeniedIP , /etc/mail/LocalIP and so on.
So now I am here working with ./gen_cf , and trying to set up my access.db.
1.I dont want to be an open relay, but I want to be a relay for some hosts on my network that are not connected to the internet. This would be option 6: Access_db and 2:Relay OFF and 3: Relay entire domain
2.I want to allow mail to go out everywhere to the internet and accept email from everywhere on the internet. I tried option 13:Promiscous_relay and 6: Access_db
I just cant seem to get it to work right. No matter what option I choose in my ./gen_cf I block something or the other.
I know this is supposed to be a better way of sendmail. But the old way you edit your file restart and you are good to go.
I can get my access_db to work if i only choose option 6. But then I cant send email from the internet to this server. =(
I open up so I can send and get email from everywhere with option 13 but then the Access_db wont work. GRRR
Any help on this would be good.
Thanks,
and happy friday

Solution>1.I dont want to be an open relay, but I want >to be a relay for some hosts on my network >that are not connected to the internet. This >would be option 6: Access_db and 2:Relay OFF >and 3: Relay entire domain
You need access_db or mailertable for this.
>2.I want to allow mail to go out everywhere >to the internet and accept email from >everywhere on the internet. I tried option >13:Promiscous_relay and 6: Access_db
You don't need to do anything to make this happen. Assuming mail originates on host X or terminates on host X, you don't need to deal with access. *Don't* become a promiscuous_relay, or you won't be sending mail to the Internet for long.
I'll attach a basic generic configuration that does what you want- go to the section
"riginal file built with the following M4 files" to see what features are in play.
Remember - gen_cf actually activates rules that would normally be commented out if you got the cf from HP (i.e. when you select a feature - gen_cf just doesn't add the rules uncommented, gen_cf assumes you want to use the rulesets.
