Re: SERIAL NUMBER CSTM
As far as I know rp and rx class systems support serial number display via cstm.
Sometimes cstm changes and scripted methods of using cstm fail.

Fix for a bug in this area.

Make sure if you are having troubles that cstm is current.

Re: SERIAL NUMBER CSTM
In my experience, none of the 32-bit only or 32/64-bit systems will do this. This covers D's, K's and older systems.

Re: SERIAL NUMBER CSTM
As mentioned before, servers from L-/N-class on supports this.
Hope this helps!

Re: SERIAL NUMBER CSTM
Most of the modern HP systems support
getconf MACHINE_SERIAL
The only one I'm sure that doesn't work on are the old L class systems.

Re: SERIAL NUMBER CSTM
All of the devices you mention will never have an electronic serial number. cstm will tell you exactly which models have a serial number. This number has to be designed into the circuit board so if getconf or cstm do not report a number, there is none. Time to get a flashlight and look inside the cabinets.

Re: SERIAL NUMBER CSTM
1. YEs I do use scripts to retreive serial number by cstm
I need to know one to one mapping which class of servers cstm supports, specifically for system
as
cstm
map
shows me system as number '1'
which means to say that what all classes of hp-ux machines shows me system when i execute map , will definitely retreive me serial number via cstm or getconf for sure. Only question is I need to know what class of machines.
