Re: SERIAL NUMBER CSTM

Shalom,

As far as I know rp and rx class systems support serial number display via cstm.

Sometimes cstm changes and scripted methods of using cstm fail.

Make sure if you are having troubles that cstm is current.

Re: SERIAL NUMBER CSTM

Most of the 64-bit machines should show you the serial number of the system. This covers the A's, L's, N's and rp's.

In my experience, none of the 32-bit only or 32/64-bit systems will do this. This covers D's, K's and older systems.

Re: SERIAL NUMBER CSTM

It would be easier if you tell us what system you have.

As mentioned before, servers from L-/N-class on supports this.

Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Re: SERIAL NUMBER CSTM

Hey,

Most of the modern HP systems support

getconf MACHINE_SERIAL

The only one I'm sure that doesn't work on are the old L class systems.

All of the devices you mention will never have an electronic serial number. cstm will tell you exactly which models have a serial number. This number has to be designed into the circuit board so if getconf or cstm do not report a number, there is none. Time to get a flashlight and look inside the cabinets.

Re: SERIAL NUMBER CSTM

echo 'map;sel dev 1;info;infolog'|cstm|egrep -i "system serial"
System Serial Number.......: USE4405AVB

Most of the servers returns me the serail numbers this way.

Re: SERIAL NUMBER CSTM

I have a very good response.
1. YEs I do use scripts to retreive serial number by cstm
I need to know one to one mapping which class of servers cstm supports, specifically for system
as
cstm
map
shows me system as number '1'
which means to say that what all classes of hp-ux machines shows me system when i execute map , will definitely retreive me serial number via cstm or getconf for sure. Only question is I need to know what class of machines.

Re: SERIAL NUMBER CSTM

As said by SEP before, all rx and rp systems including superdome servers are able to do this. This includes the rp54xx (aka L-class).

Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Right, these two return nothing:
$ model
9000/800/L2000-44
$ model
9000/800/L3000-7x
$ getconf MACHINE_SERIAL

Re: SERIAL NUMBER CSTM

How about this (I changed the real number):

System Information for (lclass01)
HPUX Model Number......: L2000
HPUX Model String......: 9000/800/L2000-44
Original Product Number: A5191B
Current Product Number.: A5191BM
System Serial Number...: DEH4342xxx
Hversion...............: 0x5c40
Sversion...............: 0x491
Software Capabilities..: 0x100000f0

It may depend on the diagnostic version and firmware too.

Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: SERIAL NUMBER CSTM

Be careful with A-class, AFAIR the A180 can't do this.
But it works with N-class (aka rp7400) too.

Hope this helps!

Torsten.
