Server takes long tiime to boot

Hi,
My server(B.11.11 U 9000/800) takes very long time to boot, its not that the server normally takes long time to boot but there is a particular stage after which the server takes 15 mins to come out of that stage, but after that the boot behaviour of the server is normal. Below given is the stage where the server takes 15-16 mins to come out.
----------------------
Initializing boot Device.
Boot IO Dependent Code (IODC) Revision 4
Boot Path Initialized.
HARD Booted.
ISL Revision A.00.43 Apr 12, 2000
ISL booting hpux -lq
Boot
: disk(1/0/0/3/0.6.0.0.0.0.0;0)/stand/vmunix
11407360 + 2486272 + 22999848 start 0x200068
------------------------
After this message appears on the console the server takes 15 mins to come to the next stage. Can anyone please tell me as to what exactely the server does internally after this step?

Did you found anything wrong in MP eventlog?

and also check the /etc/rc.log, /var/opt/resmon/log/event.log files.

Re: Server takes long tiime to boot

hi,

When did this start to happen? Was it OK previously?

As mentioned by Ahsan above, did you find any error message in the GSP console?

The system will load the kernel. The kernel will inspect all the connected hardware and load the drivers.

Do you have any open fiber channel ports by chance?

I already saw a system with about ~40 open FC ports - it took ~30min at the same stage.

Hope this helps!

Re: Server takes long tiime to boot

You will probably see the same if the server is connected (zoned) to a very large SAN, but has no visible devices there. In this case it is just searching all the time.

Hope this helps!

Torsten.

I have checked all the logs including MP logs, syslogs every thing but nothing is there.

Details of the server are as follows:-
===========
Basic Memory Description

Module Type: MEMORY
Total Configured Memory : 32768 MB
Page Size: 4096 Bytes

Memory interleaving is supported on this machine and is ON.

Re: Server takes long tiime to boot

Are there LUNS mapped to each of the FC HBA's?

Or is at least one of the FC HBA's connected to an "empty" SAN?

Hope this helps!
