I have exceed installed on my system and
connected the session to an HP-UX server.
when i press "SHIFT+@" it deletes all the
characters of the current line at the command
prompt.
can anybody tell why or which setting causing
this

Look at stty
especially stty -a
This is used to set controle characters in /etc/profile and .profile

Put this in your xwindows profile file, so that it will be activated for every login.
