sun support of java on HP Unix

I was at a training seminar on oracle's application server, and there was some discussion that sun is going to be dropping support of jinitiator and sun jpi for hp ux. Has anyone heard this ?

Nope - but then again - since when did Sun support java on HP-UX.

HP supports Java on HP-UX.

Re: sun support of java on HP Unix

I mispoke, i didn't mean support Java on HP I think they were implying that sun would no longer make java available to Hp Unix users. I don't know if that means we would no longer be able to go to the sun site to download java,(we might have to obtain it from an HP site) or that Sun would no longer provide any java software for HP period. The question came up when i indicated i was thinking of moving my oracle application server off of a windows box onto an HP integrity server, they indicated I might want to rethink it in light of Sun's announcement. Was someone just blowing smoke, or is this something that's in the pipeline ???

Re: sun support of java on HP Unix

Donald,

I have to say this sounds like BS.

Sun have *never* released any kind of java software for HP-UX - it was always HP that ported it, so I can't see what is changing there (ceratinly Java 6 is just about to be released on HP-UX).

jinitiator and jpi (java plug-in) are as far as I understand client-side JVM components for web browsers and as such their availability on HP-UX is of no significance (HP-UX isn't and never will be a desktop OS).

Ceratinly all the server side JVM components are and will continue to be available for HP-UX. Visit :
