Systen will not reboot
I have a L1000 system that I restarted and now the problem is that it does not restart.
this system has an Oracle DB.
I must note that one of the OS disks was with a NO-HW message when you ran ioscan (because of this i was unable to run an ignite backup for a long time).
I already tried to boot from the alternate disk and its the same problem it does nothing
this is not a production system and its just maintained for historic purposses.

Re: Systen will not reboot
Were you on mirrored disks?
NO-HW is not very good..
Are you in front of the box?
What do you see? your disks are alive?
I once had something alike dued to excess heat, the system crashed and refused to boot...
I took out the disks put them back and all was well...
If only have now the alternate, check to see if it is bootable...
Last thing if it doesnt solve but you have good disks is to look for an ignite tape...
All the best

Re: Systen will not reboot
The system can be configured so it can reboot from a single disk in the event of 1 mirror failing, but I don't think this is the default config.
When it happened here, I logged a call, an engineer came out, replaced the disk, and rebuilt the mirror (I've got a log of what he did somewhere)
Now, I do a
vgexport -m /etc/lvmconf/cis5_vg00.mapfile -s -p -v vg00
and a
vgcfgbackup -f /etc/lvmconf/cis5_vg00.conf.bak vg00
before I reboot to make sure the mirrored system disk is good.
If it is not good (ie a mirror has failed) these commands will tell you so.

Re: Systen will not reboot
What errors get reported in GSP?
Can you see if your disks are alive? (open the trap or front of your L1000...)
All the best

Re: Systen will not reboot
If the alternate boot drive is good you could try
reboot system
Interupt the boot process
bo alt
Interact with ISL --->> Yes
hpux -lq
This will allow the system to oot from the alternate boot disk even if there is no quorom of disks available

Re: Systen will not reboot
Start by looking at what you have:
What errors: If CPU dead and you only have one then OK its a bad start...
Look at as I already said the lights blinking of your disks (that is open the whatever is masking the front of your L1000, you know the plastic stuff...)
Again No disks, no hope to boot, but before to give up remove your disks and plug them back, it may have been a bad contact, you never know...
Now IF a disk shows sign of life, then it may be it wasnt bootable (common mistake when mirroring...), do you have a ignite tape somewhere?
All the best

Re: Systen will not reboot
RUN ATTN and FAULT led's are blinking non stop
And checking the GSP logs
they cycle between processor memmory and software failure.
Sorry.
no ignite backup available.
on the brigth side of things if I get this server working again I'll probably be named employee of the year :D

Re: Systen will not reboot
Look at your disks since you are mirrored, they should be blinking too if they are going to help us boot, they are behind a cache but I know 2 types for L1000 one is a door you open on your right the other (also a door type) occupies all the front surface, open it and look at your disks (I have no access to any boxes today but what I remember is your disks should be on the right side) these disks are hotswap so try to remove one and put it back, what happens (lights that is!)
About the GSP, did you see any message saying it cant reboot because of failure?
If not the case then there is hope....
Do you have another Lclass somewhere to create a ignite tape?
Or have you CD/DVD to reinstall?
All the best

Re: Systen will not reboot
and when the system is trying to boot I do see some blinking going on.
I think that I will have to reinstall, and I dont have another L1000 server here :(
regarding GPS I saw no message that it was unable to restart All i saw was " a system crash has occured system will restart"
and the error messages of Processor memory and software failure.
