What's the minimum amount of memory needed to run...
HP-UX 11.0
HP-UX 11i
I'm told 256Mb & 512Mb respectively
If correct...
Simply - why the diff?
Regards
Mike

SolutionFor 11i: 64MB minimum with the exception that all servers should have 128MB minimum. Again, way too little in my opinion.
As for the difference, 11i has more features and different ways of doing things, thus more memory requirements. It's just a natural evolution.

Re: Thanks for the memory
So why do people recommend gigabytes of RAM? Simply put, 32 megs of RAM means that you cannot run SAM or swinstall or perform filesystem maintenance without paging out to the swap area. 500 megs of RAM will allow you to run sysadmin utilities without swapping. But if you have two processes that need 30 megs of RAM, they will run fine in 32megs of RAM. They will be continuously paging in and out until they finish (along with any other processes like vi). IF the processes normally take 10 minutes to run with no swapping, you can figure 20 to 40 hours with just 32megs of RAM.
So if you have enormous amounts of time on your hands, HP-UX will gladly fit lots of programs into very small memory. Otherwise, you need a minimumn of 256 megs for a server and 512 megs for a workstation running CDE/Xwindows. If you run Oracle on you a server, start with 2000megs and look at 4000-8000megs for good performance.
