This is the best place in the world for HP-UX, but how about something for SUN?

I know that this is the first and last place to find information on HP related systems and anything that has to do with the HP-UX platform, but where would a person go to get the same type of help for Sun Boxes?

Is there a forum similar to this for them or is there someone out here that can help with some basic troubleshooting for them?

Thanks,
John

1. To subscribe or unsubscribe via the World Wide Web,
visit

or, via email, send a message with subject or body
'help' to sunmanagers-request@sunmanagers.org

2. You can reach the person managing the list at
sunmanagers-admin@sunmanagers.org

3. sunmanagers@sunmanagers.org

4. sunmanagers@sunmanagers.com

5. A good compendium of lists is available at :
http://marc.theaimsgroup.com

6. SunHELP maillist - SunHELP@sunhelp.org
http://www.sunhelp.org/mailman/listinfo/sunhelp

7. Sun sun-managers send "subscribe sun-managers" to

How funny, you post in the HP Forums looking for SUN help.

Stefan,

Thanks for the links. They may be just what the Dr. ordered to get the situation resolved.

I owe you one. Wish I knew how I could repay you for it,

Cheryl,

I know the skill level here is unreal, I had to start with the best!

Thanks for understanding!

Re: This is the best place in the world for HP-UX, but how about something for SUN?

If you haven't been there yet you could try www.sunsolve.com. It is Sun's online support ceneter. There is a forum called "bigadmin" but it is nothing near as good as this. The best thing about sunsolve is Sun's searchable knowledge base. I've had tons of success finding documents there when I needed help. When customers call Sun support usually there is a document created in the knowledge base, so unless you're got a totally unique problem it is almost certain you'll find something. Much of it is open to the public but some documents require a contract to view.

Re: This is the best place in the world for HP-UX, but how about something for SUN?

Ralph,

Not sure why, but when I go to the first site you suggest, it redirects me to www.anysystems.com which is a sales site. No exactly what I need in this situation (I hope!)

PG,

Started there, and couldn't figure out exactly where to go after I got there. No big deal since the issue has now been resolved, but worth some points anyway ;-)

Patrick,

One of these days in the not too distant future I would like to figure out how to use that site. It looks like it could be helpful.

Thanks to all for the suggestions, but it was Stefan's suggestion that ultimately got the issue resolved. I don't want anybody to think the other suggestions weren't good, I'm simply relaying what helped me out this time.

Have a great day!
John

Re: This is the best place in the world for HP-UX, but how about something for SUN?

Hi John, I look after Sun as well as HP and have to say that the HP forum is by far the better of the two companies. To help me with the Sun problems i usually start with the question on Google and that points me to the information I need, after that I try Sunsolve

What is this "Sun"? Surely not something that can be uttered on an HP forum? Surely a server that needs 2 different types of volume management active to keep the server running?

As a SUN Admin: you must be "creative"
As a HP admin: you must be "disciplined"
As an AIX Admin: one must be "creative and disciplined".

Sorry John, I blew it on that URL. Here it is, and I just copied it from a browser window with the sunsolve page up so I know it works.

John,

Not many Sun Admins (even vets) are paying attention about the Kool Stuff over at Sun BigAdmin but this is THE document that I usually ask a new Admin on Solaris systems to know by heart:

http://www.sun.com/bigadmin/content/solSysadminGuide/

The 20% Knowledge that Solves 80% of your Needs Guide for Solaris Systems...

Enjoy!
