Carving up with 5 vpars each.
2nd vpar has to be 11.23 - rest are 11.31.

Re: This kernel does not support all the capabilities required by this version of the vPar monitor (2.0)
Not really relavent to your problem maybe but I thought mixing versions of VPAR guests was unsupported - or was that a "feature" of the older versions of VPARS?

Re: This kernel does not support all the capabilities required by this version of the vPar monitor (2.0)
Not sure, and it would be a big heresy, but how do you interpret the folowing lines from http://docs.hp.com/en/T1335-90077/T1335-90077.pdf, page 6/16 :
-----
Operating System and Version Compatibility
This release is specific for HP-UX 11i v3 (B.11.31).
Hardware Requirements
The vPars A.05.02 release runs on HP 9000 servers and HP Integrity Servers with the HP-UX 11iv3 (B.11.31) operating system.
-----
In vPars A.05.01 release notes, the "Mixed HP-UX 11i v2/v3 vPars Environment" is clearly described. Nothing like this in vPars A.05.02 Release Notes ???

Re: This kernel does not support all the capabilities required by this version of the vPar monitor (2.0)
1) Do you have hyperthreading disabled?
2) What version of vPars 4.x do you have in the 11.23 Ignite depot?
30 What update of 11.23 do you have in your Ignite depot.
I'm looking at table 4-2 on p 21 of the vPars ordering and config guide:

Re: This kernel does not support all the capabilities required by this version of the vPar monitor (2.0)
Don't think so...
2) What version of vPars 4.x do you have in the 11.23 Ignite depot?
June 2007 release A.04.04
3) What update of 11.23 do you have in your Ignite depot.
June 2007 release...
But...this just in, our ignite server is running 11.11 on parisc and just noticed in the release notes:
The C.7.4.157 release of Ignite-UX supports the the following HP-UX release/architecture combinations:
HP-UX release HP 9000 systems HP Integrity systems
B.11.11 Yes No
B.11.23 Yes Yes
B.11.31 Yes Yes
Oh No Mr. Bill!
Weird - because we havn't had any issues with our 11.23 and 11.31 golden images - until trying to put the 11.23 one in a vpar....

Re: This kernel does not support all the capabilities required by this version of the vPar monitor (2.0)
The vpmon must be the one provided by version A.05.02 (11.31), see
http://docs.hp.com/en/T1335-90085/index.html
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

SolutionThe setboot command should show you whether hyperthreading is on or off - it needs to be off for 11iv2 vpars to boot. You can set it with 'parmodify -P
Torsten,
I think the 'mixed environment support' you are thinking of that is introduced on 04.05 is 11iv1/11iv2 mixed environment support. There is the following note on p12 of the latest vpars ordering and configuration guide:
---------------
Mixed HP-UX 11i v2/v3 vPars Environments
You can now have a vPars A.05.01 monitor and database that simultaneously supports
virtual partitions running vPars A.05.01 on HP-UX 11i v3 (11.31) and virtual partitions
running vPars A.04.02 or above on HP-UX 11i v2 (11.23). For detailed information, see the
â Mixed HP-UX 11i v2/v3 vParsâ section in the â Planningâ chapter of the HP-UX Virtual
Partitions Administratorâ s Guide.
---------------
So as long as Geoff has 04.02 or higher and the correct 11iv2 update release it should work...

Re: This kernel does not support all the capabilities required by this version of the vPar monitor (2.0)
If this is enabled and you disable this feature, you need to reboot the nPar (vpmon).
The setboot or parstatus command from the running OS or
MON> threads
will show you he setting.
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.
