Re: to geek or not to geek .. =)
Come to think of it, exploiting the guilty consciences of us geeks creates a lucrative niche market.
While we're on the topic, I say geeks can be as romantic as anyone else. Well, maybe not the French Poets, but definitely TV Repairmen, Auto Mechanics or IRS Agents.

Re: to geek or not to geek .. =)
What's really bad about being a HP-UX and Solaris geek is that I can't explain my job to my in-laws. They're small town farmers and when I even attempt to explain my job their eyes just glaze right over.
I suppose the same thing happens to me when they start talking about the different organic soy beans they plant... :)

Imagine the conversations in the pub !
Trying to explain our jobs to parents & in-laws is fun too. Their eyes glaze over as soon as you mention "computer" :-)

Re: to geek or not to geek .. =)
Now I work in UNIX, I had got my master degree but I am more attractive. Always well deress, talkative, involve in many activity, no long hair. Few years back I was even scare to talk to girls, Now I can talk to any girl any time.
I remember that was the defination of geek in school.
So I am not worried either way that someone calls me geek or not.

Re: to geek or not to geek .. =)
another way of telling this, is to ask the people around us:
once I was having fun snowboarding in the swiss alps and had just entered the at that time biggest cabin (100 persons) when a customer rang on my mobile phone and I had to explain him, how to configure his kernel. Would have somebody asked the 99 other persons in this cabin (after explaining what a "geek" is, of course) they might have called me one...
