rebooting the server won't possibly solve your problem.
actually, when you convert the system to trusted mode the passwords for all the users expire.
Try this
/usr/lbin/modprpw -k
It would refresh the IDs.
Try it and let us know the result.

Walt Watson ->> i've never came across this option about XDMCP Broadcast. Will check if it is disabled. By the way, what ports are you referring to? Basically i'm accessing the server from nc2000 box. I'm not sure which ports needs to be open.
All the users are having the same issue after system is converted to trusted, so i believe the special character possibility should be ruled out.
