UPGRADE 32 to 64 BIT

Hi all,

I support a K420 running 11.0 @ 32 bit. Some Oracle dev's need the OS at 64 bit. I usually do a cold install, almost all the time. It's been a while since I have done an upgrade. Should I follow the same upgrade instructions from going 10.20 to 11.0 and just select 64-bit during the upgrade? Has anyone done this before. Well thats a dumb question, sure you have. Any insight?

Re: UPGRADE 32 to 64 BIT

Ive tried a few over the last year and all have failed or not completely successfully (too many problems afterwards). This has been discussed before and I think others had the same experiences. Now we only install cold to 64bit - no more 32->64bit upgrades!

Re: UPGRADE 32 to 64 BIT

Let me ask you this. Can you ignite the box. Recover the box from tape and select 64bit OS during the reload? Or Does the ignite only load what it copied? 32 bit.

Re: UPGRADE 32 to 64 BIT

Hi

In the models list i am seeing only
9000/893/T600 32/64

when i had plan to upgrade from 11 to 11i, HP recommended me to be ready with backup. and they asked me to just try, No guarantee of upgrade

Re: UPGRADE 32 to 64 BIT

Hi Robert:

An Ignite recovery tape would only lay back down the OS (and "bitness") from which it was created.

As for the T-series, only the T600 supports 64-bit:
