Re: upgrading operating envirnment

Base will only give Core kernel functionality, I/O subsystem, memory management, LVM and other critical components.

Whereas enterprise will give following additional: Mirror Disk/UX, Online JFS GlancePlus, PRM performance tools and other applications that are required to run an enterprise level commercial server.

Re: upgrading operating envirnment

What you should have done was to install the enterprise env when you installed the OS. Your only option now is to obtain the necessary codewords to unlock the products from the CD. You'll need to contact HP support to get the codewords. Worse case is re-install which is probably not what you want.

Re: upgrading operating envirnment

I'd re-install/upgrade.

Seeing how you have base installed - the upgrade should go smoothly (though I havn't had to do that).

My servers are Enterprise or Mission Citical.

The only thing base I have is my workstation.

Re: upgrading operating envirnment

Hi Sarif,

Make sure you have a make_tape_recovery tape for backout.

No need to re-install. Simply use update-ux command to update your OE. Mount the CD and run

/usr/sbin/update-ux -s /cdrom HPUX11i-OE-Ent

Re: upgrading operating envirnment

hi sharif,

I perfectly agree with sanjay.usually HP sends the server pre-ignited..at the first boot it automatically runs set_parms to get the specific values required for configuration.

Well there is nothhing called upgrade process in your case unless u already have a previous version of os that u are tring to upgrade with new version,In your case the base oe is factory installed, after adding necessary basic configurations like ip,hostname etc...you will have to login to licence.hp.com and get the necessary codewords for the products u are entitled to install with ur enterprise oe.

Unless u are really keen on installing the OS with the volume sizes which u prefer rather than using factory default sizes for root, swap and ... u can go for reinstallation. If u think HP has assigned optimum sizes to the lvols then u can without doubt ignore spending 45 or more minutes installing the servers and get on with other activities....
