I'm running 4 vPars on 9000/800/SD32000 in one nPart. In the Vpars I see the starnge IO paths:
here is the listing of one of vpartintions:
State: Up
Attributes: Dynamic,Autoboot
Kernel Path: /stand/vmunix
Boot Opts:
[CPU Details]
Min/Max: 2/4
Bound by User [Path]:
Bound by Monitor [Path]: 1.11
1.12
Unbound [Path]:
[IO Details]
1.0.1
1.0.6
1.0.12
2.0.0
2.0.2
2.0.8
2.0.14
1.0.1.0.0.4.0.0.0.0.0.0.0 BOOT
2.0.8.0.0.4.0.0.0.0.0.0.0
2.0.8.0.0.4.0.0.0 ALTBOOT
2.0.8.0.0.4.0
1.0.1.0.0.4.0.0.0
[Memory Details]
Specified [Base /Range]:
(bytes) (MB)
Total Memory (MB): 5888
There are duplicate paths for disks apperaing..
2.0.8.0.0.4.0.0.0.0.0.0.0
2.0.8.0.0.4.0.0.0 ALTBOOT
and
1.0.1.0.0.4.0.0.0.0.0.0.0 BOOT
1.0.1.0.0.4.0.0.0
I don't know why there appered the paths all of sudden. Look this is the output from IO scan for the boot disks:
disk 9 1/0/1/0/0/4/0.0.0 sdisk CLAIMED DEVICE HP 36.4GMAP3367NC
disk 15 2/0/8/0/0/4/0.0.0 sdisk CLAIMED DEVICE HP 36.4GMAP3367NC
So I think the correct vpar boot paths are:
2.0.8.0.0.4.0.0.0 and 1.0.1.0.0.4.0.0.0
I set the alternate bootpath to: 2/0/8/0/0/4/0.0.0
with setboot command and this is the output:
Primary bootpath : 1/0/1/0/0/4/0.0.0
Alternate bootpath : 2/0/8/0/0.4.0
You see that the trailing part gets mangled..
Don't you know where is the problem.. or do you rememer some bugs related to vPar IO paths?
Regards,
Vladimir Drzik

Re: vpars on HP-UX 11.11
taken from an old (and now unsupported) version vy me:
# vparcreate -p ... -a io:0/0/2/0.2.0:boot
will result in
# vparstatus -p hostname -v
...
[IO Details]
0.0
0.8
0.10
0.12
0.0.2.0.2.0.0.0.0.0 BOOT
I'm quite sure this related to the version of software you are using - what is your version?
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: vpars on HP-UX 11.11
swlist | grep -i virtual
to find your version. Should be A.03.02 at least or better A.03.03.
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: vpars on HP-UX 11.11
http://docs.hp.com/en/oshpux11i.html#Virtual%20Partitions
(according to this Version A.03.04 for 11.11 is coming soon ...)
Your version is *unsupported* since 2005, see
http://docs.hp.com/en/1705/oc.pdf

Hope this helps!

Torsten.
