VSE and SIM confusion

Hi,all.

There is one RX2660 server,I wanna use it as two servers.
So,pls help me check some items:
1.how to use nPar?
2.how to use vPar?
3.If I use the VSE product,so I must install HP-UX os and SIM on the RX2660 server,then install the VSE product.Am I right?

Thank you very much.

Re: VSE and SIM confusion

1.how to use nPar?
You cannot do this with an rx2660, it is not a cell-based server

2.how to use vPar?
See the response to question 1 above

The only way of "splitting" an rx2660 is to make it into an Integrity Virtual Machine Host, then create and install the relevant Virtual Machines and their Guest O/S.

3.If I use the VSE product,so I must install HP-UX os and SIM on the RX2660
Define "VSE product"!
VSE (Virtual Server Environment) is a framework for doing virtualisation. nPars and vPars are just examples of PRODUCTS in the VSE FRAMEWORK.

If you wish to use the VSE Management Suite called ID-VSE (Insight Dynamics for Virtual Server Environment) then yes, you need to install HP SIIM, plus the ID-VSE poroducts, along with other pre-requisite software.

Take a look here:

Re: VSE and SIM confusion

1. You can't - nPars aren't supported on rx2660.
2. You can't - vPars aren't supported on rx2660.
3. VSE is a suite of products which encompasses nPars, vPars, Integrity Virtuak Machines (HPVMs), Global Workload Manager (gWLM), Capacity Advisor (CapAd) and a set of management tools driven through the SIM framework to control all that stuff:

I suspect if your end goal here is to run multiple OS instances on a rx2660, then what you should _really_ be interested in is HP Integrity Virtual Machines (HPVM):

nPars and vPars are supported only on the mid-range and high-end Integrity systems (rx7640, rx8640, Superdome and Superdome 2)

Re: VSE and SIM confusion

All budies,thank you very much for your response.

So,the steps for use rx2660 as two servers:
1.install HP-UX os on the rx2660 server;
2.install SIM software and VSE additions;
3.use VSE to create two VMs;
4.install OS one the two VMs.
All right?

in reply:
So,the steps for use rx2660 as two servers:
No, you use the rx2660 as a VM Host, still one server!
1.install HP-UX os on the rx2660 server;
Yes, and include the optional HP Integrity Virtual Machines Software

2.install SIM software and VSE additions;
No, you should NOT use a VM Host as an HP SIM Central Management Server(CMS)

3.use VSE to create two VMs;
Use Integrity Virtual Machines Software

4.install OS on the two VMs.
Correct

Re: VSE and SIM confusion

Nope... you can't run SIM and HPVM on the same system, so just forget about SIM and VSE for the moment and concentrate on HPVM. You don't need SIM or VSE to manage HPVMs - you can do it all through Virtual Machine Manager (VMM) which is just part of Systems Management Homepage once you have installed HPVM.

Re: VSE and SIM confusion

Thanks.
I just install the HP Integrity Virtual Machines Software and create two VMs.
And the SIM can install on other server to manage all VMs as one management center.
So,pls give me some links for HP Integrity Virtual Machines Software,for examples,the install or setup guide.
:)
