wwn numbers

I have an itanium dome with vpars and os 11.31.
I am trying to install vpars on the npar. Now when I do a map -r nothing is being shown at the shell prompt.when I am trying to install OS from my ignite server I found that there is no storage allocated for the wwn. Now how do I find the wwn names of the fc and provide it to my storage team so that they can allocate luns for the OS installation.

Re: wwn numbers

Shalom,

WWN is generally stamped on the Fiber card.

If you have an OS installed you use fcmsutil to get the WWN

Re: wwn numbers

I assuming you are trying to create
another vPar on your nPar, from an
Ignite image.

If you boot the new vPar up to the
point where the LAN cards are displayed
the storage Admin should be able the get the
WWN information fromn their software and
assign disks. That is what we do.

You can't do a fcmsutil, because you don't
have an OS for this system(vPar).

Another option, is to bring down the existing
vPar, boot the machine in nPar mode.
You can then get the WWN name of all
the cards in the physical server via the
fcmsutil command. Keep this handy.

You can then give the storage Admin the WWN
based on IO paths you assign your Vpar

Re: wwn numbers

Does the nPar have an OS?

If not you can't build the vPar.

Re: wwn numbers

By default you cannot see anything in the SAN from EFI.

TO enable this see

http://docs.hp.com/en/AB587-96012/ch05s06.html

But if you run the OS installer you will see them, because the install kernel will scan the SAN.

Hope this helps!

Re: wwn numbers

if the qn is to find out the wwn outside the OS - i wud fibre connect the hba cards to the san switch.

and do a "switchshow" from brocade
and "sh flogi databa" from cisco

Re: wwn numbers

that was great, I found out from the setting option info the wwn at the efi level. That resolves the issue.

Thanks very much

Re: wwn numbers

noblebio , yes your approach was correct the switch would show the fibre card wwn, but unfortunatley I dont have access to them as it belongs to the storage team.Wanted to be sure from the OS size too
