/sbin/init.d/xfs start
/sbin/init.d/gdm.rc start
For auto start /etc/rc.config.d/xfs Font server variable should be set to 1

Solution
/sbin/rc3.d/S990gdm.rc for the cde connection service.
/sbin/rc2.d/S620xfs for the font server.
I did not create those links. The OS install must have.
To re-create:
ln -s /sbin/init.d/gdm.rc /sbin/rc3.d/S990gdm.rc
ln -s /sbin/init.d/xfs /sbin/rc3.d/S620xfs
