NIC Card works only with Cross cable
I have a pc with 2 NIC cards of 3com(3c59x).I am able to configure both the NIC cards, once after reboot the configuration, ipaddress it shows. But I won't be able conncet or ping to any of the NIC,s through straight cable.I am using a switch.
'mii-tool' will say "no link".If I connect a cross cable the network will start working.
could any body can give suggestions on this.
regards
reji

Re: NIC Card works only with Cross cable
Its still possible to find 10 BaseT hubs out there in resale shops and such.
If you have a cisco switch, have it configured for 10 BaseT manual.

Re: NIC Card works only with Cross cable
Looks to me like something is badly wired either in your NIC or your hub. Try to connect your PC to another hub.

Re: NIC Card works only with Cross cable
If you want to connect two systems and do not have Gigabit cards, or a cross-over cable, you must use either a switch or a hub.
Similarly, if you want to connect two _switches_ (iirc or hubs or a hub to a switch) back-to-back prior to Gigabit Ethernet you need a cross-over cable unless one or the other has (Auto)MDIX support.
