Hi All,
I am new to suse linux.
I know the following tolls "rug, zypper and YOU (Yast Online Update)" are used to update the packages / pathces in suse linux.
Rug --> Command line
zypper --> command line
YOU --> GUI.
I have some questions:
1)Is zypper backend to YOU?
2)Is zypper and rug available in suse 9.x and below?
3)What is the tool used before suse 9.x for updating the patches?

Solution
Hi,
As I remember regarding SuSE, here is the info.
1) Zypper is not backend for Yast.
Libzypp is a software management engine and open source project which powers YaST and Zypper.
2) Zypper is not available in suse 9.x and below.
3) RUG was used in suse 9.x and below
If you need exact info, you may need to post a query in SuSE forums.

2)How to install rug in suse 9.x?
3)what version of OS is redcarpet supporting?
4)what version of OS is smart supporting?
5)How to install redcarpet and smart?
Thanks for you reply.

I started with suse 10.x and prefer the zypper command line option - much faster.
