Newly release patches release date.

Hi there

Could anyone tell me how would we know when a patch was release, because in the newly release patches, it does not state when the patch was release.

Cheers

Re: Newly release patches release date.

Hi,

you can subscribe to a mailing list informing you about new OpenVMS patches. Each announcement contains the date the patch was released.

I am not aware of way to find this information on ITRC short of downloading the release notes for each single patch.

Re: Newly release patches release date.

Hi thanks for your reply, however I did subscribe to the openvms patch mailing, but that was still on the old patch site before the new ITRC site. I did not receive the following newly release patches by email, so I had to go and get them from ITRC site myself. And while viewing the readme files, it does not state when the patches where release or modified, like it used to be.

Cheers
Hilton

Re: Newly release patches release date.

This has been a concern from the beginning that ITRC became the principle location. There have been quite some remarks in this forum, but still I don't see any date in the principle screen, only after selecting it for download. To be honest: if a patch has dependencies, ihe site will add these patcehs as well - that's the only good thing up to now; for the rest, who knows what happened to the remarks sent to the patch delivery team....

Re: Newly release patches release date.

I agree.

As a system administrator who had a thousand other jobs, having to wade through the new format patches once a week is now a nightmare.

At the very least, could the patch updates be released individually, if that's how the recipient wants them?

Robert.

Re: Newly release patches release date.

Robert,
I haven't dug into the forum on this subject (I've got a lot to do beside that as well ;-)) but I can recall there have been request for at least:
* Show release date in the overview
* Sort overview on release date in stead of alphabet
* and PLEASE do not change naming to the HP-UX convention (have you ever seen that, you'll understand what I mean).
But there seems to be some reluctance to keep the good things from the Compaq sites....

Re: Newly release patches release date.

Hi,

If you can use FTP, you can view the modification dates of the patch itself, which will give you an idea of the date the patch was released.

I prefer using FTP for a number of reasons, try it if you can.

Re: Newly release patches release date.

The email notifications about new kits still contain a release date, so if you subscribe to these you can extract the information from there (also the date the mail was sent will be a precise enough indication for most cases)

Re: Newly release patches release date.

Regardless the mailing list, the release date should _at_least_ be shown in the patch overview - and preferably be a sortkey (descending, of course)

Re: Newly release patches release date.

A new release of the ITRC will be coming out the begining of next year. That release will do what you ask. Search results will be sorted by date and Installation Rating and the release date will be posted in the search results.
