RDP installing Support Pack 8.11

I've recently downloaded the latest Support Pack 8.11 CD and extracted the files to ProLiant Support Pack Z.ZZ for Windows 2003 directory. Now when I run an RDP job it fails when it gets to the Support Pack script with this error.
" Error - 3 installing package .\lib\software\Proliant Support Pack Z.ZZ for Windows 2003\hpsum.exe'.

What could I be doing wrong here?

Thanks

Re: RDP installing Support Pack 8.11

I found the problem, but now, how do I get around it or fix it. It seems to be failing on Emulex drivers piece. The /force /silent switches did not work for me.

From HPsum_log.txt:
Component File Name: cp009295.exe
Component Name: HP StorageWorks Fibre Channel Adapter Kit for the x86 Emulex Storport Driver
Original Version: 1.9.0.0
New Version: 1.10.1.1
Installation Result: Unable to execute component

From HPsum_detail_log.txt:
====== HP Smart Update Manager Installation Log ======
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Setup Session Beginning 11/13/2008 - 7:25:54 AM
---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Command Line Parameters Given: /force /silent

Name: HP StorageWorks Fibre Channel Adapter Kit for the x86
Emulex Storport Driver
New Version: 1.10.1.1

Beginning Silent Session...

The software is installed but is not up to date.

Current Version: 1.9.0.0

- the component will be updated to the new version

The minimum required Microsoft Storport QFE 932755 may not be installed.
Please check and install, if needed. Then rerun the Smart Component. Check
the Driver Release Notes for further details.

The operation was not successful.

End Session

Re: RDP installing Support Pack 8.11

Did you extract to the z.zz folder and overwrite or did you delete the contents first. I always delete the existing contents.

Are you deploying SP1 or SP2 in your i386.

I'm not sure but this qfe may be in SP2.....

To add SP2 to an i386 folder

Goto
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/windowsserver/bb229701.aspx
Download â x86 on Download Centerâ
Download it onto the root folder of the same disk partition as the RDP install eg D:\
Rename it W2K3SP2.EXE

Open a DOS window and goto the root of D:\ then type the following to slipstream the service pack
D:\W2K3SP2.EXE /integrate:\osdist\w52s- for updating Windows 2003 Standard

Often its easyier to move the i386 folder to the root rather than typing in a longer path

Re: RDP installing Support Pack 8.11

I am having the exact same issue. Any luck finding a resolution?

Re: RDP installing Support Pack 8.11

Thanks Adrian for your comments. Service Pack 2 has always been part of our OS build process. It was only when we started using Support Pack 8.11 that we had problems.
To resolve the issue I had to download the KB932755 fix from Microsoft site. This was the latest StorPort Drivers fix. Once downloaded, I wrote a short bat file to call the KB fix and applied to my RDP job before the Support Pack 8.11 script.
Keep in mind that I am using Emulex HBA cards. If I take out the HBA card I then do not have the problem with SP8.11.

Thanks

Re: RDP installing Support Pack 8.11

I've seen people add in QFEs or KBs into the uattended default.txt script. Never had time to try it myself.. thats another way.

Re: RDP installing Support Pack 8.11

Installing MS storport driver and then the HP HBA driver sorted this out for me.

MS Storport: WindowsServer2003-KB932755-x86-ENU.exe
